Hello Marianna,

Happy Easter and Happy Passover, I hope you’ve had wonderful Spring holidays and are getting excited for Summer!

As a final reminder, please make sure you’ve filed your 2022 Tax Return (or requested an extension) by April 18th, 2023.

Keep in mind that paying your tax bill online is the best way to ensure the IRS receives your money on time. (Pro Tip: This also helps you to maintain control of the timing for your payment.) Sending a personal check to the IRS extends the processing time and doesn’t guarantee when the funds will be pulled from your account.

Next up: What’s going on in the market? For a quick update, check out our Chief Investment Officer, Brad McMillan’s video below. Brad summarizes the first quarter as well as our outlook for the future.

Also, calling all parents, grandparents, and educators alike – April is Financial Literacy Month and spreading financial education is our bread and butter here at CURO. Every year we work with local universities and high schools to help encourage young adults to get started on the right foot with their finances. But we don’t stop there, we also strive to help professionals maintain their accreditations through CLE presentations for updates on changes to their retirement plans, IRS rules, and more!

Check out our article below on Teaching your Teen about Finance as well as our Knowledge Center for more resources to help you and your teen.

Finally, in CURO news, we will be hosting our biennial Shredding Event on Saturday, June 10th, 2023 from 10AM – 1PM at our office!

All are welcome to drive-up and drop-off any documents that must be securely destroyed, think:

-         Tax Returns and Forms

-         Bills and Credit Cards

-         Any documentation with your personal information (SSN, Address, Account Numbers, etc.)

At this event, we’ll be collecting donations for Unite for Her, a non-profit foundation that helps “every person with breast and ovarian cancers feel the support of a loving community” by giving them access to comprehensive education, services, and tools to enrich their health and well-being.

With tax season coming to an end and the weather improving, I hope you have a wonderful Spring full of laughter, family, and planning for summer adventures! Don’t forget to send photos from your adventures to info@curowm.com to be featured on our Dream Wall!

Until next time, wishing you health, wealth, and happiness.

Marianna

Insights From Our CIO:

Market Thoughts, April 2023

Brad McMillan, Commonwealth’s CIO, recaps March’s market and economic news. U.S. markets were up by low single digits in March. For the quarter, the Nasdaq performed best, followed by developed markets and the S&P 500. The primary driver was the progress on inflation, which is well below where it started the year. Still, fears of a broader banking crisis rattled markets after the Silicon Valley Bank collapse. Federal action resolved the immediate concern, but weak balance sheets could signal tighter financial conditions ahead. With political risks also in play, are we moving closer to a recession? Stay tuned to find out. Follow Brad at blog.commonwealth.com/independent-market-observer.
