Population Change in Texas Counties

Texas continues to experience rapid population growth, both in percentage and numeric increases. According to the latest U.S. Census Bureau estimates, the fastest-growing counties by percentage are located in the suburban rings around the urban core counties in the Texas Triangle, with Kaufman, Liberty, and Montgomery counties leading the way.

Meanwhile, Harris County saw the largest numeric growth in the entire nation, adding over 105,000 residents in just one year. Other counties, including Collin, Montgomery, and Tarrant, also saw significant increases. From urban centers to suburban expansions, Texas remains a top destination for new residents.

The Texas Demographic Center released an interactive map highlighting the primary factors that have driven population changes in Texas counties since 2010, including two major components: natural change and net migration. The maps are updated annually with the latest Census Bureau population estimates.

DATA UPDATES

Vintage 2024 Population Estimates for Counties, Metropolitan, Micropolitan, and Puerto Rico Municipios

The U.S. Census Bureau released Vintage 2024 Population Estimates for Counties showing annual population estimates, rankings and components of population change for metropolitan and micropolitan statistical areas and counties as well as population estimates for Puerto Rico municipios since the 2020 Census.

New Residential Construction

The U.S. Census Bureau released the New Residential Construction (Building Permits, Housing Starts and Housing Completions). This data provides national and regional data on the number of new housing units authorized by building permits; authorized, but not started; started; under construction; and completed.
