MONTHLY DATA UPDATE

Texas Demographic Center recently released its updated county-level population projections. The data provides detailed projections of Texas' residential population by age, sex, and race/ethnicity for each year from 2020 to 2060 across all counties in Texas. These projections are available under multiple migration scenarios.

Thank you to everyone who joined our Population Projections Webinar on October 22! We hope it provided helpful insights into Texas population trends. The video and presentation are available on our website to revisit or share.

Texas' Future in Numbers

Our Vintage 2024 Texas population projections indicate that the state will continue to grow and age over the coming decades. The 65+ population is expected to increase the fastest, while growth among children under 18 will slow and eventually begin to decline. The working-age population will continue to grow and maintain a relatively stable share of the total population.

At the same time, growth will not occur evenly across the state. Major metro areas are projected to see continued population increases, while many rural and some border counties may experience slower growth or population decline. Migration will remain a key contributor to these trends, and the Texas Demographic Center will continue to monitor and share how these patterns evolve in the years ahead.

The Texas Water Development Board provides information on Proposition 4 regarding the Texas Water Fund

On November 4th, voters in Texas will have the opportunity to vote on several local initiatives along with 17 amendments to the Texas Constitution. Residents throughout Texas have expressed concern about water challenges and scarcity. In 2025, the Texas Legislature passed Senate Bill 7, which made some changes to the Texas Water Fund statute. The legislature also passed House Joint Resolution 7, which proposes a constitutional amendment (Proposition 4) that will appear on the November 2025 ballot, to dedicate a portion of the revenue derived from state sales and use taxes to the Texas Water Fund and to provide for the allocation and use of that revenue. The Texas Water Development Board has created a helpful FAQ about Proposition 4, providing information on this important issue.

For information on all constitutional amendments on the ballot, visit the Texas House Research Organization’s website, which provides a basic understanding of the amendments along with viewpoints from supporters and opponents of each amendment.

Early voting is from Oct. 20-31, and election day is November 4th. Visit the VoteTexas website to learn about elections in your area.
