Population Median Age in Texas Counties, 2024

Source: U.S. Census Bureau Vintage 2024 Population Estimates

The U.S. Census Bureau's recently released Vintage 2024 Population Estimates highlight the ongoing demographic shifts across the country. Between 2023 and 2024, the population aged 65 and older increased by 3.1%, reaching 61.2 million individuals, while the number of individuals under age 18 declined slightly by 0.2%, totaling 73.1 million. As a result, the U.S. median age has risen to a new record high of 39.1 years.

The Texas Demographic Center has created a county-level median age map based on the latest data. Our analysis indicates that although Texas is experiencing similar aging trends, it remains younger than the nation, with a median age of 35.8. Nearly half of Texas counties have a median age below the national figure. The youngest populations are concentrated in central urban areas, the Permian Basin, and along the U.S.-Mexico border.

The new estimates also include detailed demographic data sorted by race, age, sex, and Hispanic origin for the nation, states, metropolitan and micropolitan statistical areas, as well as counties.

Texas Rural Funders and the Texas Water Foundation release report on workforce needs for water and broadband

Texans rely on water to live and broadband to work and learn. Our economy needs both to thrive. But, with the Texas population increasing every year, we need to invest in the infrastructure and workforce that support these critical services. The good news? Many of the tools, programs, and partners we need are already in place — we just need to put them to work. Texas Rural Funders and the Texas Water Foundation partnered with Jobs for the Future to highlight these workforce needs in Creating Infrastructure Pathways in Texas: Water and Broadband
