We are proud to announce the naming of Dr. Jennifer Lodi-Smith and Janet McNally, professors at Canisius University, as RTPI's very first Scholars-in-Residence.

Jenn and Janet have teamed up to launch The Spark Bird Project.

"RTPI is honored to be a founding sponsor of The Spark Bird Project," explains RTPI's CEO Arthur Pearson. "When Roger Tory Peterson was 11 years old, he had an unexpectedly up-close encounter with a northern flicker. This "spark bird" experience changed his life, setting him on a course to becoming the father of the modern field guide and international ambassador for birds."

“As a Professor of Psychology,” Lodi-Smith shared, “I was struck by the spark bird story of Peterson and so many other birders, but dismayed that there is scant academic scholarship on this topic. While

we are doing a great job of understanding birds, we know very little about birders themselves. The Spark Bird Project aims to better understand who birders are and who potential birders may be – insights which can help RTPI engage more people in the beauty and wonder of birds.”

Mark your calendars for Friday, March 8, noon to 1 pm. RTPI will be hosting an online program, featuring artist Andrea Rich, whose woodcut prints are currently featured at RTPI in an exhibition, entitled: An Abundance of Riches.

Andrea will talk about finding inspiration in nature, lead us on a virtual studio tour, and demonstrate her woodcut printing process.

Andrea has exhibited widely across the United States and in several European countries and Canada. Her work is included in many private and public collections. Andrea is a member of Artists for Nature Foundation, the Society of Animal Artists, Artists for Conservation, and the California Society of Printmakers.

The program is FREE, but registration is required: CLICK HERE to register.

An Abundance of Riches is on view through April 14. You won't want to miss this exhibition. Make your plans to visit RTPI today.

Singer-songwriter Miranda Wilcox returns to RTPI for our next Art After 5 on Friday, March 22, 5:30 to 7:30 pm.

Miranda will be playing an acoustic live set of R&B, pop, and country, plus her own original songs. Her style spans multiple genres and decades from the 1980’s to today.

RTPI is proud to be partnering with Southern Tier Brewing Company for all our Art After 5 programs this year.

"Art After 5 is the best Friday Happy Hour in CHQ," crows David Niles, RTPI's Advancement Director. "Beer, wine, cider and soft drinks, along with charcuterie, live music and great art -- you can't beat it."

Survey Data Helps us Serve You Better

At RTPI, our board and staff work hard to provide the very best art + nature museum experience for everyone. Hearing directly from you is critically important to us. How are we doing? What do you most value about RTPI? What might we need to do better?

Your responses will be completely anonymous. The survey should take no more than 10 minutes to complete. Please CLICK HERE to get started.

This marks the third year in a row RTPI has participated in this national survey conducted by the American Alliance of Museums and Wilkening Consulting. This year, we look forward to sharing with you what we've learned over the past three years and how your responses are shaping RTPI moving forward. Thanks!

The Countdown to Banff Continues. The dates are Friday and Saturday, April 19 and 20. Two nights. Two entirely different lineups of the world’s best mountain sport, culture, and environmental films.

"The amazing thing about these short films," says David Niles, RTPI's Advancement Director, "is that you can do a lot of these outdoor adventure activities rights here in beautiful Chautauqua County - skiing, biking, rock climbing, you name it." In fact, this year we will be partnering with one of Banff sponsors, Loud Performance, to host a Fat Tire Bike Ride at RTPI on Saturday, May 11 from 10am to 2pm.

Tickets are selling fast. CLICK HERE to watch the trailer and buy your tickets today -- including the option to reserve your spot at our special VIP opening reception.
