RTPI Summer Soirée

An Inspiring Success

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who attended our annual Summer Soirée.

On a perfect summer evening, more than a hundred guests gathered under the tent at RTPI to help us celebrate 90 years of the Peterson Field Guide and 40 years of the Roger Tory Peterson Institute.

RTPI Board member Lee Peterson -- himself the author of one of the field guides in the famed Peterson Field Guide series -- spoke about the impact of his dad's work: "Today, there are more than 100 million birders in the United States, alone."

Governor Kathy Hochul, State Senator Sean Ryan, and Swedish Consul General in New York City, Camilla Mellander, sent citations to commemorate the twin anniversaries.

Proceeds from the event go to support RTPI's Artist-in-Residence program.

If you were unable to attend the event and would still like to support our resident artists (you can provide them art supplies, meals, travel or lodging), CLICK HERE to get started.

And Thank you!

Art that Matters to the Planet:

Clarity

Opening Night Celebration

Come celebrate the opening of our next exhibition on Friday, August 2, 6-9 pm. CLICK HERE to buy your tickets (Unless you are a member, in which case the event is free.)

This year, the theme for our signature exhibition of Art that Matters to the Planet is "Clarity."

Artists play an important role in helping to protect our natural resources. Art that Matters to the Planet: Clarity features artists who have partnered with environmental organizations, scientists, naturalists and writers -- to explore the role of art and artists in protecting freshwater ecosystems and all of the life they support.

Featured artist Lindsay Olson will be our guest speaker.

The exhibition opens August 2 and runs through October 27.

Art After 5

"Best Happy Hour in WNY"

Our next Art After 5 is Friday, July 26, 5:30 to 7:30 pm. We're thrilled to welcome back Drew Minton and Lena Morano from The Assembly.

Drew and Lena have teamed up to provide an intimate version of The Assembly’s signature sound. Their repertoire includes songs from The Great American Songbook era, jazz standards and modern songs ranging in style from swing to blues to pop to soul.

In addition to the live music, charcuterie and libations, your ticket buys you a sneak peak of our next exhibition, Art that Matters to the Planet: Clarity.

As always, your first beer, glass of wine or soft drink is on us. Beer is provided by our AA5 partner, Southern Tier Brewing Company.

Each August we celebrate Roger Tory Peterson's birthday by throwing a "bird-day" bash, featuring live music, food and fun. Our headliner this year is Michael Glabicki of Rusted Root, with Dirk Miller.

Opening for Michael will be Miranda Wilcox and Tim Britt. That's four hours of music!

Sandee’s Catering will be grilling in the back courtyard and PersNikkity Pies will tempt you with drool-worthy desserts. The RTPI bar will be open with a variety of beer, wine, and non-alcoholic beverages to choose from.
