As we step into the most magical time of the year, I’m thrilled to share that Downtown Suffolk is alive with events, celebrations, and festive cheer all throughout December! From holiday markets and parades to live performances and family-friendly activities, there’s something special waiting around every corner. Browse this holiday edition for ideas of fun and fellowship.
I recently, had the pleasure of being introduced to the Suffolk-Nansemond Historical Society by Board Member Lisa Amos. She graciously toured me through the beautiful Phillip-Dawson House Museum, located at 137 Bank Street. If you haven’t visited yet, the museum is open Mondays and Tuesdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and it’s well worth the trip. The Society has become a true community advocate, working tirelessly to shine a light on people, stories, and places at risk of being forgotten. Their dedicated volunteers conduct extensive research and preserve important local history; work that enriches our understanding of Suffolk’s roots and strengthens the fabric of our community. Truly, the Society is a jewel among many found here in Suffolk.
Looking ahead, I’m excited to share that beginning in 2026, you can expect a monthly contribution of stories from Historic Downtown Suffolk, bringing even more depth and heritage into our downtown experience. In the meantime, I invite you to stroll our twinkling, decorated streets and soak up the holiday spirit that awaits you in Downtown Suffolk. Whether you’re shopping, dining, attending an event, or simply enjoying the festive glow, there’s no better place to embrace the season.
Happy Holidays and I’ll see you around downtown!
