Phoenix Bank: History in View
The historic Phoenix Bank building continues its journey toward restoration, with a powerful visual now on display. Temporary murals recently installed on the east wall are on loan from the Virginia African American Cultural Center, celebrate Black history, resilience, and cultural contributions across Virginia. These large-scale works bring color, storytelling, and renewed attention to one of downtown’s most significant landmarks, serving as both an artistic moment and a reminder of the building’s importance to Suffolk’s past and future. The installation reflects our commitment to honoring history while building momentum for what’s next. This installation is in partnership with WATCH Downtown Suffolk, Virginia African American Cultural Center, and ViBe Art District in Virginia Beach. The original art was sponsored by Virginia Tourism Corporation and will be in place as part of the VA 250th celebration.
