ETSU’s Next-Generation Firewall:

Our 3rd Generation Milestone

Personal, financial, and academic data support the information systems needed for students to live and learn at ETSU. Layered safeguards protect that data. ETSU’s next-generation firewall (NGFW), installed during Spring Break, represents our latest move to stay ahead of cybercriminals seeking to steal data. Faster and smarter than its predecessors, the new firewall uses machine-learning processes that consume data from multiple intelligence sources. By monitoring activity on the ETSU network, the NGFW learns what is normal and employs artificial intelligence to block malicious activity at lightning speed. No safeguard is perfect, but this new firewall makes decisions and takes appropriate actions far faster than a human security worker.

ITC Email Limitations

On April 15, ITS will implement a daily email recipient limit of 500 for student email accounts to protect them from being targeted by scammers. Most students will not see a negative impact on their day-to-day emailing but can request a temporary daily limit increase if needed. Shared mailboxes (such as student organization accounts) are not affected. Please visit the Knowledge Base Article or contact the ITS Help Desk for additional information.

D2L Video Note

Video Note enables faculty to create and share brief audio or video recordings directly within the platform. This tool is particularly useful for providing verbal feedback, enhancing course content, or delivering announcements.

Panopto Maintenance

Panopto will be offline on Saturday, April 12, at 10:00 PM EDT for maintenance scheduled to take approximately 3 hours. These updates will improve the overall stability and capacity of the video hosting cloud infrastructure.
