Personal, financial, and academic data support the information systems needed for students to live and learn at ETSU. Layered safeguards protect that data. ETSU’s next-generation firewall (NGFW), installed during Spring Break, represents our latest move to stay ahead of cybercriminals seeking to steal data. Faster and smarter than its predecessors, the new firewall uses machine-learning processes that consume data from multiple intelligence sources. By monitoring activity on the ETSU network, the NGFW learns what is normal and employs artificial intelligence to block malicious activity at lightning speed. No safeguard is perfect, but this new firewall makes decisions and takes appropriate actions far faster than a human security worker. |
