During the month of June, the Lions Eye Institute teamed up with the Hillsborough County Tax Collector to bring the Glazer Vision Foundation Mobile Vision Clinic to six (6) tax collector locations: Brandon, Drew Park, East Tampa, North Tampa, Plant City, and Southshore. The Lions Eye Institute is the operator of the Glazer Vision Foundation Mobile Vision Clinic which provides free eye exams and glasses to children at no charge. 

Did you know: 80% of all vision impairment can be prevented or cured, however, 1 in 5 children cannot afford eye care?

Thanks to the Glazer Vision Foundation’s Mobile Vision Clinic,162 children ages were screened, 87 exams were performed, and 81 glasses were distributed at the Hillsborough Tax Collector events.

Employee Spotlight

This month's employee spotlight features, Karen DeMarco–

Director of Marketing and Business Development

Karen DeMarco recently completed 4 years of service with the LEITR. During this time, she has created various marketing and business development opportunities to present LEITR to cornea surgeons as a leader in the field of eye banking. Karen created a LEITR exhibit for ophthalmology meetings that doubles as a surgeon training center and has coordinated the design of no less than 50 marketing deliverables, advertisements, and communications. Her professional approach to LEITRs ocular business marketing is complemented by her skills to develop relationships with surgeons through the management of 12 independent representatives and surgeon training programs. Karen’s commitment, passion, and sense of urgency have served LEITR well as our ocular distribution business has grown by over 30% since Karen’s arrival.
