Do you have your updated Transportation of Dangerous Goods Equivalency Certificate?
AIA Canada members are authorized by Transport Canada to transport specific dangerous goods under certain conditions. AIA renews its Equivalency Certificate every two years.  The current certificate was issued in May 2017 and expires May 31, 2019.

In partnership with ICC Compliance Center (ICC), we offer our members access to online training related to the transportation of dangerous goods. Certification is available upon completion of training.

To access the ICC website training portal or to download a copy of the certificate, log into your AIA account and click on the Government Relations tab on the left-hand menu on the page.

UPCOMING REPORT - Providing you new direction on workforce data
Need information on demographic trends in the industry? Want to find out about labour market trends, gaps, and occupations that are in high demand and in what region? And the crowd-favourite - compensation and wage levels!

Did you know that there is no centralized resource for aftermarket labour data? Statistics Canada, industry publications, market research firms - all provide macro level economic data that is sporadic and does not capture the industry accurately.

For this reason, AIA Canada launched a groundbreaking labour market intelligence project for the automotive aftermarket in Canada. The outcome of this project is to support the industry with pertinent labour market data that is crucial for success. AIA Canada's upcoming report, 'Labour Market Watch: Status of the Mechanical and Collision Sectors in Canada' is a first-step in that direction. What emerges is a clear picture of the workforce composition of the industry, along with data on gender, education, training and other demographic information.

Calling all automotive aftermarket shops - take the compensation survey!
Your contribution is critical!
In Fall 2018, AIA Canada is launching AutoConnect, an online labour market tool that will provide provincial and regional wage and bonus averages as well as other critical labour information. Your contribution to this 10-minute survey will go a long way in feeding AutoConnect with the right kind of information.

Why is compensation data important?
For companies like yours, compensation data is critical in attracting and keeping talented human resources. For the sector as a whole, this data is important in understanding how labour flows in and out of the industry as well as competition from other sectors.

What's in it for you?
As a thank you, you will receive a comprehensive copy of the regional AIA Canada results. This report will help you make better business decisions about wages and salaries in order to stay competitive.

Survey links - Deadline May 4th, 2018

Thank you for supporting the AIA Canada Wage Survey and the competitiveness of our industry. Your complimentary AIA Report will be sent to you at the beginning of September 2018. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us at aiasurvey@paystats.ca or call us at 519-831-1424.
Join AIA and Auto Care Association's webinar on the right to repair
To kick-off the first Community of Practice: Fair Access to Vehicle Data, we will be joined by Aaron Lowe, Senior Vice President of Regulatory and Government Affairs with Auto Care Association (the association representing the aftermarket in the United States).

Aaron will share with us the Right to Repair story in the U.S. This is a very timely presentation as the debate over Right to Repair is heating up in the U.S. and also here in Canada.

What is Auto Care advocating for?
In light of the unprecedented power of telematics technology used to access driver and vehicle information, it is critical that once a vehicle is purchased by an individual, the car owner, not the car company, should determine where the information from those systems is sent, if to anyone.

It's provincial budget time
I t was a busy end to the month of March for Québec and Ontario as both provinces tabled their  budgets for 2018. Both Québec and Ontario are in election years - therefore the realization of items promised in each budget will depend on which way the vote goes.

Your AIA Government Relations and Knowledge Hub Team has developed this quick reference guide for Ontario and Québec members, and will keep an eye on developments affecting our industry.

What do you say to catch the attention of government officials to ensure that the aftermarket has the Right to Repair?

Check out Auto Care's short and sweet position paper. What do you think of their argument? http://www.autocare.org/workarea/DownloadAsset.aspx?id=1540&gmssopc=1
" We face a tremendous battle to get access for the data to these vehicles. The manufacturers are proposing for us to get access but through their servers. We'd be at their beckon call on the price, how we could access, and what level of access we have to that information. We find that totally unacceptable."

If a vehicle owner has control over who has access to their vehicle data, they then have choice in where their vehicle can be serviced.

Check out this impressive (and short) video by Auto Care that seeks to inform consumers about the importance of control and access to vehicle data: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LMRlArhNPzw
