We're partnering with the Conference Board of Canada to release a report on the economic impact of industry disruptors.
In 2017, AIA Canada released a report that outlined the potential impact of CASE (Connected, Autonomous, Shared, and Electric) on the mechanical and collision sectors. In this follow-up report, with research support from Conference Board of Canada (CBoC),we'll seek to answer two questions:
- What are the economic impacts of these automotive disruptors on the aftermarket?
- What are the impacts for labour in this sector?
The report draws on existing literature to benchmark the current CASE platform and presents three scenarios on how the economic and workforce impacts play out in the industry.
These research findings can prove to be a valuable arsenal for any aftermarket business looking to adapt to the upcoming technological challenges in the industry.

After what seemed like a dragged out cycle of breaking up and getting back together for the past thirteen months, the new NAFTA deal, the United States - Mexico - Canada Agreement, was signed.
Something interesting: the new deal includes a clause that essentially gives the U.S. veto power over trade deals that Canada negotiates with a "non-market country." A non-market country is a country that doesn't operate on free market principles - meaning their prices do not reflect the true value of a product. An example of a non-market country? China.

Ontario's Drive Clean Program
|
The Drive Clean Program in Ontario that the Ford government has called out-dated and no longer effective is ending.
The Trillium Automobile Dealers Association sees the end of the program as "good news for the auto sector, taxpayers and drivers [as] it cuts red tape, and saves time and money. No longer will auto dealers waste money on equipment and overhead costs, freeing up money to invest in their business."
The ousted Liberal government had planned to
shut the program down because of better emission control standards on vehicles and federal requirements for cleaner fuel. Read more here.
