Goffstown Public Library's
Important Updates from the Director

As of Wednesday, June 17, 2020 we are permanently no longer charging overdue fines on ALL items owned by our Library. We have been moving toward this for a few years and I am happy to report the Library Board of Trustees unanimously supported my recommendation.

Open Requests: As of July 10, requests for materials can be made for items in any library in the GMILCS consortium. This is great news! Our delivery service starts Monday, July 13, so that service will be back to normal very soon. Until July 9, you can only place requests for items owned by the Goffstown Public Library: please do that online through our catalog at www.goffstownlibrary.com/search, email us at goflib@goffstownlibrary.com, chat with us at www.goffstownlibrary.com, or call us at 497-2102.

Computer Reservations: We are now accepting appointments from the public to use our computers beginning Monday, July 13. To keep Library staff and visitors safe, we are limiting the number of PCs in use, so your appointment length may be restricted. Call us at 497-2102 to make an appointment. (Note: you will be required to wear a face covering while in the library building. Disposable masks are available in the lobby or wear one of your own.)

Parking Lot Pick-Up: We will continue contactless parking lot pick-up of library materials for the foreseeable future. The hours available to pick-up are: Monday-Friday, 10am to 2pm and Tuesday and Wednesday evenings, 5 to 7pm. As always, the Goffstown Public Library is closed on Saturdays in July and August and no staff will be available. Please see our short video explaining the process on YouTube.

Please don’t hesitate to reach out to us with questions.

Be well.

Courageous Community Conversations:
Can We Talk About Race?
Tuesday, July 14 at 7pm

In this time of the COVID-19 pandemic, the killings of George Floyd, Ahmaud Aubery, and Breonna Taylor, incidents in NH such as the arrest of Jean Roland Saint Preux and numerous slights in our own Greater Goffstown community have caused many of us to examine our beliefs about discrimination and racial justice. After having elected an African American as President, many people thought racism was behind us. Yet recent events seem to prove otherwise.

Join James McKim, President of NHNAACP and Cole Riel, NH State Representative, for a conversation about these recent events and what we might do to create a more welcoming and just community. Sponsored by the Goffstown Public Library and St. Matthew's Episcopal Church.

Registration is required , we will meet remotely via Zoom and all registered participants will receive an email invitation with details how to join the discussion.

Be Counted
U.S. Census 2020

The Census takes place every 10 years, and is used to distribute billions in federal funds to local communities, and determines the number of seats each state has in the U.S. House of Representatives. Your response to the Census:
  • is kept confidential
  • directly affects funding for programs and services like Medicaid, health clinics, roads, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), education, and much more
  • fulfills your civic duty because it’s mandated by the U.S. Constitution; the United States has counted its population every 10 years since 1790
  • can be submitted online at https://my2020census.gov, by phone, or by mail.

As of 6/30/2020, 75.3% Goffstown residents have already responded to the Census; check out the response rates throughout New Hampshire here: https://2020census.gov/en/response-rates.html .

For those who have not received mailings from the Census Bureau (may include rural residents, those with PO Boxes, or those that live in areas with high concentrations of seasonally vacant housing) - Census Workers will be dropping off packages and updating addresses (no face-to-face interaction). Once they receive their 2020 Census Questionnaires, residents are encouraged to respond either online, by phone, or mailing in their response; doing this will reduce the number of "in-person" census taking the Bureau will need to conduct in August.

For questions about your data security, or facts & questions about the Census, please visit https://2020census.gov .
