Previous studies have shown a link between sleep apnea and risk of cognitive decline and dementia. This study in Neurology shows that sleep apnea leads to shrinkage of the memory center of the brain in those individuals without cognitive symptoms but who already had amyloid plaques in the brain. This study argues for the need for sleep apnea screening which is much more accessible with the use of technology. A home sleep study can be done at home using a small finger device that uploads your sleep data with immediate results.
