| | | Board Unanimously Approves Naming of the East County CSU After Bob Huber | I was proud to bring forward an item this month to honor former Ventura County Supervisor Bob Huber by naming the Crisis Stabilization Unit in Simi Valley after him, an action that received unanimous approval from the Board. Bob’s decades of service, from deputy district attorney to City Council Member, four-term Mayor, and County Supervisor, reflect a deep and lasting commitment to our community. During his time on the Board, he was instrumental in advancing behavioral health services in East County, including helping secure American Rescue Plan Act funding to help transform an existing facility into a four-bed Crisis Stabilization Unit. He also dedicated countless hours to pro bono work, especially supporting teens facing mental health challenges. Naming this facility in his honor recognizes both his leadership and his enduring impact on expanding access to critical mental health care for Ventura County residents. | | | |
Board of Supervisors Unanimously Approves Next Steps for Simi Valley Library Property Transfer
I brought forward a Board letter at the Ventura County Board of Supervisors meeting that was unanimously approved to explore the potential transfer of the Simi Valley Library property to the City of Simi Valley.
This action directs the County Executive Office to research options and report back within 60 days on transferring ownership of the 6.74-acre library site, while ensuring it remains a public library and continues serving surrounding unincorporated communities at no cost.
The Simi Valley Library has been a cornerstone of the community since its opening in 1980, built through a strong partnership between the County and the City. Over the years, the City of Simi Valley has invested more than $20 million into maintaining and operating the facility, despite not owning the property.
This effort is focused on aligning ownership with responsibility, allowing the City to make long-term capital improvements, invest in necessary upgrades, and continue delivering high-quality library services for residents.
Any potential transfer would include protections to ensure the facility remains a public library, continues to serve nearby unincorporated communities, and maintains its role as a cooling and warming center during extreme weather.
This is a thoughtful step toward strengthening local partnerships and securing the long-term future of this important community resource.

Take 5 and Read Kick Off Event
The Take 5 and Read program is one of my favorite community literacy initiatives and a wonderful reminder of the power of reading to bring people together.
The program encourages residents to pause, take a few minutes out of their day, and enjoy reading, whether it’s a book, article, or story shared with a child. It’s a simple idea with a lasting impact, helping to foster stronger literacy skills and a lifelong love of learning across all ages.
Each year, I look forward to participating and seeing the many creative ways this program shows up throughout our community. I’m especially excited about the opportunity to continue visiting schools as a reader this year.

Board Unanimously Approves Review and Modernization of Community Event Policies and Temporary Food Facility and Mobile Food Facilities Policies
I’m pleased to share that the Board of Supervisors unanimously approved my item to review and modernize Ventura County’s policies related to Community Event Organizers, Temporary Food Facilities, and Mobile Food Facilities. This effort is focused on reducing outdated barriers, improving processes, and better supporting small businesses, entrepreneurs, and community event organizers across our county.
The review will now move forward with County staff, who will evaluate opportunities to streamline permitting, modernize systems, update event organizer criteria, and explore more flexible options for food vendors to participate in community events while continuing to maintain our strong health and safety standards.

Magdaleno Community Farm 1 Year Anniversary
I attended the Ruben Castro Charities Magdaleno Community Farm 1-Year Celebration and Tree Planting in Moorpark.
The event marked an important milestone for Ruben Castro Charities and their ongoing work to support food security and expand access to fresh, locally grown produce for Ventura County families. Held at the Magdaleno Community Farm, the celebration highlighted the farm’s mission of building a regenerative food system while also serving as an educational space for students and community members to learn about sustainable agriculture.

13th Annual Ventura County Farm Day
Ventura County’s agricultural roots were on full display at the 13th Annual Ventura County Farm Day, hosted by SEEAG. This year’s event featured 18 different farm and agricultural locations across the county, welcoming residents from all over to experience agriculture up close.
As a free, family-friendly event, Farm Day provided a unique opportunity for the community to visit working farms, meet local growers, and learn firsthand about where our food is grown. From crop production to sustainability practices, each stop highlighted the vital role agriculture plays in Ventura County’s economy and way of life.
Thank you to SEEAG, our local farmers, and the many volunteers who continue to make this event such a meaningful and educational experience year after year.

Moorpark State of the City
It was an honor to attend the Moorpark State of the City, themed “A New Chapter,” highlighting the exciting progress and forward-thinking vision shaping the community.
Mayor Enegren along with other city leaders shared updates on efforts to streamline the permitting process, making it easier for businesses to open and grow in Moorpark, an important step in supporting local economic development. Public safety remains a top priority, and it was encouraging to hear Chief Nick Odenath report that Moorpark ranks 4th among the Top 10 safest cities in California.
There are also exciting advancements in education, with Moorpark College preparing to introduce a bachelor’s degree program in Cybersecurity, creating new opportunities for students and helping build a strong workforce.
Moorpark continues to demonstrate what’s possible when innovation, safety, and community investment come together. This is a new chapter, and the future looks bright.

Adoption Kit Drive
Our office is proud to once again partner with Ventura County Animal Services to support families and their newly adopted pets. We are currently collecting supplies to build Adoption Kits that will be given to families when they bring home a new pet. These kits help ensure every animal starts their next chapter feeling safe, cared for, and at home.
The donation drive will run from April 1st through May 15th, and we kindly ask that all items be new. We are collecting essential supplies such as leashes, collars, treats and chews, dog and cat toys, and waste bags.
All donated items will be distributed during California Adopt-a-Pet Day on Saturday, June 6, helping make adoption day even more special for both pets and the families who welcome them home.
