The Mayor and the Council met for a regularly scheduled meeting on Monday, September 20, and the Mayor presented Urbandale native and Olympian Karissa Schweizer with a proclamation recognizing her achievements in the 2021 Olympics in Tokyo.
The Council held a public hearing for proposed changes to the zoning code for The Reserve at the northwest corner of 142nd Street and Hickman Road to increase the allowable height of buildings in that area. The Council also held a public hearing for proposed changes to the planned unit development for Highland Meadows at the southeast corner of Waterford Road and 170th Street to change lot sizes. The Council also approved a site plan for a 37-unit townhome development at the northwest quadrant of Waterford Road and 142nd Street.
The City Council approved a contract for crossing guard services at thirteen locations in Urbandale for the 2021-2022 school year.

Garbage Collection in Urbandale

The Solid Waste Division helps to maintain a clean and healthy Urbandale environment by collecting and disposing of residential garbage, recycling, and yard waste. Household garbage is collected weekly by the City of Urbandale.

A City election will be held on Tuesday, November 2. Elections are held in odd-numbered years on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November to elect city officers and vote on public measures. Councilmembers and the Mayor are elected for four-year terms. More information on who is running and how/where to vote can be found here.

Drop Off Your Leaves for Free
|
|
Urbandale residents may drop off leaves, free of charge, at Urbandale Public Works Facility, 9401 Hickman Road, on Saturdays (8 AM - Noon) from October 29 through November 14. Residents may bring leaves in any paper yard waste bag. Containers and plastic bags will also be allowed as long as the yard waste is emptied from the container or bag at the site. Please bring identification as checks will take place to make sure only Urbandale residents are utilizing the no-charge service. Sign Up for Emergency Alerts

Text “UFDAlerts” to 67283 from your cell phone to sign up for emergency alerts. The Fire Department has partnered with Dallas County Emergency Management Agency to share real-time emergency messages. These messages are emergency messages only (severe storm warnings, tornado warnings, watches, etc.) and cover the entire City of Urbandale regardless of County. Only warnings or significant watches and emergency messages will be delivered.
