September 2024

Meet Elizabeth Kalbfleisch

Receiving my first dose of Teclistamab!

I was just 43 years old when I was diagnosed with multiple myeloma, a disease that I had never heard of.

Now, with almost three years of experience with myeloma under my belt, I have learned to navigate this challenging disease despite being on continuous treatment and having faced two relapses since my diagnosis.

I have also come to understand the importance of prioritizing my well-being, staying positive, and cherishing every moment with my loved ones. This unexpected journey has taught me resilience, helping me face the many twists and turns of this disease with courage and gratitude.

I’ve recently started a groundbreaking treatment called a Bispecific T-Cell Engager, and I feel incredibly fortunate to have access to this cutting-edge technology. I know this opportunity wouldn't be possible without the critical fundraising efforts that support advancements in myeloma research.

With this in mind, I am eager to give back to the myeloma community. That's why, for the second year in a row, I participated in the Vancouver Island Multiple Myeloma March this past September 8th, alongside my family and friends.

We are quite literally marching for our lives, with the hope that a cure is on the horizon!

Your (myeloma) red carpet moment awaits!

Meet some of your Multiple Myeloma March media stars (to date)!

Radio

Heaton Dyer of Hamilton-Niagara is doing amazing work with his good friend Debra McLaughlin, General Manager of 105.9 The Region radio station (serving North York and a wide part of the GTA).

Together, Heaton and Debra have created and secured free radio spots (ads) for Hamilton-Niagara, Kitchener-Waterloo, Scarborough, Toronto (Mississauga and Newmarket), Halifax, Saskatoon,

and Vancouver!

Heaton and Debra also had the ad/audio file edited without dates and locations so Myeloma Canada could use it in our social media..and so can you!

A tremendous thank you to Heaton and Debra!

If you’d like a copy of the audio file, please email Patricia Celestin at pcelestin@myeloma.ca.

Pre-march video

Vivien Lougheed and Iris Stinson of Prince George have done an incredible pre-event video to promote awareness for myeloma and their march.

To watch Vivien's and Iris' amazing video, please click on the thumbnail.

A huge congratulations to you both!

If anyone else has created a promotional video, or videoed their march, please send us your file or link. We’ll do our best to get the video up on your city page as well as include them in the next issue of the Mini Mag to help create more excitement and support for your event!

And don’t forget to forward your photos. We love sharing these on social, in the Myeloma Matter e-newsletter, on myeloma.ca, in our annual publications like the Year in review…basically wherever and whenever we can!

Posting your photos (and videos) on your social platforms is an amazing way for you to spread the word, get new people involved, and help with your fundraising. Share pictures from last year’s event if your march hasn’t happened yet, or of this year’s march if it did. It’s never too late to raise awareness and funds, and have fun at the same time!

Check out all the photos on Flickr

In case you didn’t know, you can see thousands of photos from past Multiple Myeloma Marches, Myeloma Canada Rides, the Grand Rappel, and other events on the Myeloma Canada Flickr platform.
