Welcome Summer! As most of the US gears up for VERY warm weather, we here in the NC Mountains are able to spend our summer days enjoying the outdoors. Our average high temperature in July and August is 78 DEGREES in Boone, with lower temperatures at higher elevations. Average low temps are in the upper 50s! Imagine going on a hike or having a Tee Time in the middle of the day.

Real Estate Market Report
Our Mountain Home market is showing strong growth year to date, with unit sales up 4.7%. The BIG story is a large number of sales of higher-end homes, including the highest residential sale recorded in our area at $5.1M. This has driven up average prices.

The surge in high dollar sales is an indication of a strong economy, coupled with willingness of sellers to list at more competitive prices. In most cases, sellers of higher dollar homes have more invested in the home than the market value.

The median price for residential homes and condos is $249,000 overall across our three county area (Ashe, Avery and Watauga Counties). This is up 6.0% from calendar year 2018. For our most popular towns of Boone, Blowing Rock and Banner Elk, the median price is somewhat higher at $315,000.

Market data indicates that our area is a balanced Real Estate market, with some seller's market trends. Median price gains are sustainable. The good news for buyers is that we have more new listings that have hit the market than the same time last year, so inventory is stable.

Being primarily a second home and resort market, we have slightly longer days on market than in larger cities where there is large industry and required relocations. These numbers include time under contract, and good homes are moving more quickly than in the last 10 years.

Spring & Summer Events in the NC High Country
Now- October

Our local farmers' markets are back in full swing! With a market almost every day of the week throughout the High Country, there are many options to explore. Visitors can buy local fruits, vegetables, artisan crafts, baked goods and more!

Now - September 26

Valle Crucis Community Park's annual concert series kicks off on May 24th. Bring chairs and blankets and enjoy regional and local musician. Local eats will be available via a food truck.
Starting June 15

The 2019 Summer Music Series at Cook Memorial Park in Todd will start on June 15th and last through August 10th. The concerts will be held on Saturday evenings from 6 pm - 8 pm. Bring a lawn chair or a blanket. Food and beverages will be available for purchase.
July 4th

The annual Downtown Boone 4th of July Parade will travel east on King Street, starting at the intersection with Poplar Grove Extension and ending at Legends. Following the parade the Town of Boone continues the celebration with free cookies and refreshments on the lawn of the Jones House.
July 4

Enjoy one of the most popular summer events in the mountains! Head to Tweetsie Railroad for a spectacular fireworks show, starting at 9:30pm.
July 6th

Visit historic downtown West Jefferson in beautiful Ashe County for their annual Christmas in July Festival. Enjoy arts and craft vendors, live music, great food, street performers and more!
July 11 - July 14

The 64th Annual Grandfather Mountain Highland Games will be held at MacRae Meadows on Grandfather Mountain. Over one hundred Scottish clans and societies sponsor this celebration of Scottish dance, music and athletics.
July 23 -28

The Blowing Rock Charity Horse Show is among the oldest continually operating shows in America, held on grounds inside Moses Cone Memorial Park. Other show dates include July 31 - August 4.
July 26

 The social event of the season is Symphony by the Lake at Chetola Resort in Blowing Rock. Enjoy a moving performance by the Symphony of the Mountains, surrounded by the beautiful Blue Ridge landscape. Take your seat on the grass by Chetola Lake. Gates open at 5:30 pm and the show begins at 7:30 pm. Bring a picnic or savor a catered meal. The grand finale will include fireworks.
