The Request for Presence
Be my strong rock, a castle to keep me safe, for you are my crag and my stronghold, for the sake of your name, lead me and guide me. - Psalm 31:3
To you, O LORD, I lift up my soul; my God, I put my trust in you. - Psalm 25:1
‘But now’—declares YAHWEH—‘come back to me with all your heart, fasting, weeping, and mourning.’ Tear your hearts and not your clothes, and come back to YAHWEH your God, for he is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger, rich in faithful love.
- Joel 2:12-13
He shall say to the LORD, “You are my refuge and my stronghold, my God in whom I put my trust.”
The Cry of the Church
Lord, have mercy on us. Christ, have mercy on us. Lord, have mercy on us.
The Lord’s Prayer
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be your name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive our debts as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil; for thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen.
The Prayer Appointed for the Week
O God, whose glory it is always to have mercy: Be gracious to all who have gone astray from your ways, and bring us again with penitent hearts and steadfast faith to embrace and hold fast the unchangeable truth of your Word, Jesus Christ your Son; who with you and the Holy Spirit lives and reigns, one God, forever and ever. Amen.
The Concluding Prayer of the Church
Almighty and eternal God, ruler of all things in heaven and earth: mercifully accept the prayers of your people everywhere and strengthen each of us to do your will; through Jesus Christ my Lord. Amen.
