AVID : Advancement Via Individual Determination
|
Atlantic Housing Foundation partners with AVID to help get information to deserving young men and women applying to colleges around the nation. AVID's mission is to close the achievement gap by preparing all students to succeed in education and global society.
Each award cycle AVID helps students find great scholarship opportunities and AVID teachers work hard to not only prepare students for college, but also help them to understand and navigate the application process for both the college and scholarship application process.
AHF is exited to be partnering with AVID again this cycle.

Local High Schools Partnerships
|
Atlantic Housing Foundation Resident Services Coordinators visit counselors at local high schools to get the word out about our scholarships. Each year the Resident Services coordinators each visit one to two local high schools as well as local colleges and trade schools twice a year. This amounts to up to 120 school visits in a year!
We would like to thank our Resident Services Coordinators who help to get the word out about this important program. They also visit with our residents during scholarship workshops twice a year to help them fill out applications and understand the process. Last year we awarded 11 Atlantic Housing Foundation residents with scholarships!

Students at Tall Timbers build airplanes and a mini-golf course.

Did you know that STEM occupations are growing at the rate of twice all other occupations? Science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) is important because it effects every day of our lives. By exposing students to STEM and giving them an opportunity to explore STEM related concepts, they will develop a passion for it and hopefully may eventually pursue a job in a STEM field. By providing fun activities that are STEM-based with real-life situations students learn how to solve problems and develop solutions.
Tall Timbers Apartments, along with Arrowood, Waters at Elm Creek, Waters at Willow Run, Waters at Sunrise, Redbud Trail, Stone Creek, Villas at Sonterra are all piloting the use of Mindworks Resources Imaginate Kits. These kits are based on Common Core standards and provide activities to inspire creativity, imagination, problem-solving and self-awareness. Using the Build It Kit the students at Tall Timbers designed airplanes from plans and mini-golf courses (pictured).

Communities Connect: Windover Oaks, Titusville, FL & Waters at Magnolia Bay, Summerville, SC
|
What could be better than community connections in your own community? How about when two communities connect? Resident Services Coordinator Evelin Hernandez reached out to Waters at Magnolia Bay's Resident Services Coordinator Juanita Small to initiate a community connection writing program. The students in the after school program at Windover Oaks have been writing to the students at Magnolia Bay as pen pals for several months. What started as a way for students to use their writing skills has developed into a fun way to learn about others in another Atlantic Housing Foundation Community!
The students are finding out so many things about not only the students, but also the state in which the students live, their weather, the types of activities they like to participate in, and more! What a great experience for these students to connect and learn!

Communities Transformed. Two words, endless possibilities.
We started on the shores of South Carolina 20 years ago, and over that time we’ve outgrown our Atlantic borders and transformed hundreds of thousands of lives in six states in 45 communities and 35 cities. With a mission to provide all people with a place to call home, regardless of their financial status, age, and mental or physical well-being, we’ve turned those two words into thousands of possibilities.
Our passion for real change, guided by our sometimes imaginative, often innovative and always trusted process, has helped our residents not only improve their own lives, but improve their communities through their transformation.
We are Atlantic Housing Foundation.
As an organization, we aspire to and believe in MAKING A DIFFERENCE. We strive to help and improve the communities where we work and live. We seek to assist our residents improve their lives through education, service, and community.
