Welcome Ben Kane

A big Arkansas welcome to Benjamin E. E. Kane, who became Pastor/Head of Staff at Second Presbyterian Church in September. Prior to this call, Ben served as the Pastor of Howard Memorial Presbyterian Church in Tarboro, NC (often called “the crossroads of Western Civilization”) for nine years and as Associate Pastor for Youth, Young Adults, and Mission at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Nashville, TN.

Ben is married to Lydia Wingo Kane, an Arkansas native, and they have two daughters, Margot and Phoebe who keep them busy with dance classes, searching for the best ice cream, and enjoying all that Arkansas has to offer. You will often find Ben with his nose in a book (biographies and memoirs are his favorites), cheering on Duke basketball, running (slowly), or searching for the closest bookstore.

Be sure to find Ben at this week's Presbytery meeting and welcome him to the Presbytery!

Arkansas Presbytery Stories

Every time I attend a PCUSA gathering, regionally or nationally, I hear the same question: "Why are there so many people from Arkansas?" We know why: because Faith Formation is at the heart of this Presbytery. We also know the more we are able to invest in our youth and young adults, the more we are able to equip those saints for future ministry as adults, both professionally and as volunteers. We know events like youth conferences are crucial to faith formation, but increasing costs can also be cost prohibitive for families. In 2024, we celebrate our 50 year anniversary of this iteration of the Presbytery of Arkansas; we want to capitalize on this momentous year by engaging in an active fundraising campaign, focused on Youth ministries.

In collaboration with other Youth and Young Adult ministry leaders, we will embark upon a two year fundraising campaign which highlights those who have been formed in faith by the Youth and Young Adult Ministries (including our campus ministries) around the Presbytery. You will hear stories from adults who will share the impact Youth and Young Adult ministries in the Presbytery of Arkansas have had on their lives. You will hear from those in various professional ministry roles, as well as educators, therapists, healthcare professionals, etc. We are asking people to donate here, specifically to youth ministries (such as Montreat, Mo-Ranch, or Youth A-Team) to offset the cost of these events. Keep an eye out in the coming weeks for the first AR Presby Story!

Arkansas Pilgrimage Fall 2023

Advent Workshop Follow-Up

Over the past three weeks, six Advent workshops were held around the state. (Pictured left is the Hot Springs/Westminster group.) Over 80 people attended the workshops representing 37 of our congregations. We shared resources and ideas that sparked our imaginations for Advent 2023 planning.

You can find all the resources shared on the Advent/Christmas page of the Ministry Resources on presbyark.org. Many ideas were shared by participants at the various sessions and you can click here to read about them.
