Your News from Lancaster City Schools

Science Students Welcome Hal

The students of Mrs. Baumgardener's science class at Thomas Ewing Junior High had a few surprise visitors before the holiday break. Ben Peters, a senior Chamberlain College of Nursing technician, visited the student "Medical Detectives" along with his sidekick Hal, a medical robot.

The students got to interact with Hal and observe respiratory rates, heart rates, and more!

Start Thinking Ahead

As we approach the halfway point of the school year, we will begin talking with students about registration for next year. We encourage you to have conversations at home about what courses may be a good fit for your student and their future plans.

One option, College Credit Plus, allows students to earn college credit for courses while still in high school if they qualify and are eligible for the program. If your student is interested in taking College Credit Plus (CCP) next year please plan to attend our informational meeting.

For families with students currently in grades 6-11, we will meet on January 23 at 6 p.m. in the LHS Auditorium.

What's Happening in Our Schools

TARHE TRAILS

Third grade students in Mrs. Hull's class had a sweet time participating in a recent STEM lesson. They were challenged to construct the tallest "tree" possible using toothpicks and gumdrops! Enjoy more recent events HERE.

TALLMADGE

Thank you to everyone who donated items to the Lancaster Vineyard Church Food Pantry in December. More than 1,500 items were collected, making the season even more merry and bright.

MT. PLEASANT

Students enjoyed a lesson in balloon twisting last month when Columbus author Erica Carlson visited the school. A former teacher, Carlson has spent over 20 years entertaining kids all over central Ohio. She is the author of Sedgie the Hedgie.

MEDILL

Congratulations to Medill students on their giving of coins and attention to the Salvation Army in December. The Army's Giant Red Kettle made a stop at the school allowing students the chance to climb to the top and drop in their donations.

GORSUCH WEST

Reminding students that "every day counts" helps to inspire positive attendance rates. Last month, despite the cold weather, 115 students had perfect attendance and they are being recognized on the Attendance Wall in the school. Congrats to everyone who helped these students with their accomplishments! We appreciate your efforts!

GENERAL SHERMAN

The December recipient of the Maplewoodshop's Orange Pencil award is General Sherman Junior High School!

Students at General Sherman participate in woodworking as one of their elective classes. The school utilizes Maplewoodshop, a national woodworking program, to target academic needs, social and emotional skills, and build community in their school.

THOMAS EWING

Ewing students and staff enjoyed selling and eating donuts to raise money for school events and to provide holiday goodies for families in need. They sold out of doughnuts in just 26 minutes!

DID YOU KNOW?

Martin Luther King, Jr. Day is the only national holiday designated as a national day of service to encourage all Americans to volunteer to improve their communities. Considering finding a way to volunteer in the community this year!
