Dear Family of St Francis,

In this quieter and cooler season, the leaves of trees give way to letting go. We have had to let go in the moments when loved ones leave this world for eternal life. As All Saints Day, November 1, approaches, I invite you to remember those you love but see no longer by thinking about them in the communion of saints that surrounds us. See below for how we shall honor them on November 1.

Thank you to all who have sent in their pledges for 2021! We are in this together! We share in the ministry of Jesus and support that ministry through our operating budget. May the stewardship theme this year, “faith-filled generosity”, move us to pray especially for those who are suffering from the consequences of the pandemic.

To support us spiritually, we have the opportunity to gather in person for worship outdoors on Sunday morning at 9am. David Knight, our organist, fills the space with music and the beauty of nature inspires our souls to be calm. AND, we have outdoor radiant heaters to help with the chill and 4 more heaters on their way!  We have changed the time for Communion only to 11:15 to allow for those who watch online at 10am so they have enough time to get to church.

Please text - 310-995-6519 - or email Paula+ to register for the 9am outdoor worship or 11:15am communion only in front of our church.
With the help of our ushers and altar guild, and many behind the scenes volunteers, the following protocols will help us stay safe at 9am for the outdoor worship:

  • You may bring your own lounge chairs, but we shall have available, clean, sanitized chairs also.
  • You must wear a face mask covering your mouth and nose.
  • The seating area will be marked with mandatory 6 foot distancing strips and signage.
  • The 4 stone benches on the perimeter of the patio will be marked for household units.
  • Signage will facilitate where to stand for Holy Communion.
  • At this time, Holy Communion will be wafers only in paper cups.
  • Hand sanitizer stations and extra masks will be available.
  • If you have a cough or do not feel well then take care of yourself and stay at home.
  • The parish hall restrooms will be open. Please use the spray sanitizer after use.

May we never forget we are in this together.

With love and care,

To our Online Community
And finally - for all of you in our community who can't be in-person at this time, please know that you are still vitally important members of our church family. We are so very sorry that the situation means that many of you will need to continue worshiping remotely. We know that must hurt. We'll be continuing our full online worship well into the future, and of course please know you can contact Paula+ or Jude+ at any time if you need some support, or prayer, or just a chat!
Remember Your Loved Ones
All Saints Day, November 1
On this day we remember our loved ones who have died. Please submit to Paula+ the names of any member of your family who has died since All Saints Day 2019. Please submit their names by 5 p.m. October 26. Their names will be read out loud on Sunday, All Saints Day, Nov. 1. May God’s strength and peace be with us as we remember parishioners and family members who surround us in the communion of saints those we shall always love but see no longer
Be together - 5 days a week, as well as Sundays.
Morning prayer twice-weekly, led by Paula+, and Compline three times per week, led by Jude+ and a team of lay leaders. Each service includes the traditional service, plus words from the leader, and explanations of the readings. They are prayerful and quiet, a far cry from the turmoil of the world, and medicine to help us heal and be comforted and inspired.

Taizé Service of Wholeness and Healing
This Tuesday - October 27, 7:00 p.m. on Facebook
David and Femi Knight bring you their thoughtful and beautiful music and harmonies to give you half an hour of gentle meditation. Rev. Paula introduces our service and leads us with Scripture and prayers for healing. You have nothing to do except perhaps light a candle for the healing of the world, and then sit back and let God be God. Peace to all!
