Did you know that you can help shape the future of Norfolk? Residents of the City can apply to join one of many Boards and Commissions that have an impact on future decisions made by City Council.
Apply for your seat at the table to 52 active Boards and Commissions advising Norfolk City Council. All you need to do is visit the website (or use the "MyNorfolk" app, easily downloaded from the Apple app or Android (Google Play) stores onto your phone), select your board or commission, and fill out the application.

HONORING GABRIEL JOURNEY FOR HEROIC ACT IN FIRE RESCUE
On November 12, ENT1 (SS) Gabriel Journey went above and beyond to save lives during an apartment fire in Norfolk. Demonstrating incredible bravery, he scaled an external wall to rescue residents trapped by the flames, ensuring their safety and proving that heroes are among us.
In recognition of his courage and quick thinking, the City of Norfolk has honored ENT1 (SS) Journey for his selfless actions. His bravery is a testament to the core values of service and sacrifice, reminding us all of the power of acting in the face of danger.
Please join us in congratulating ENT1 (SS) Gabriel Journey for his remarkable heroism. His actions are an inspiration to us all!

CommUNITY PLAY-IN & SING ALONG with VIRGINIA SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA
February 2, 4:30 p.m., NSU
CommUNITY invites everyone in Hampton Roads to pick up their instrument, bring their voice and join the Virginia Symphony Orchestra in a celebration of peace, inclusion and unity, but that’s only half of the event. Be part of the audience for this inspiring annual event that embraces the community’s cultural richness and diversity, uniting people of all ages, faiths and backgrounds through participation in music, dance and spoken word.
Admission is FREE but registration is requested for anyone singing or playing. New this year: Parking shuttles will be available.

How many times have we ALL been there... standing in your kitchen, wondering if some form of packing could go into the recycling bin, or not? Now Norfolk has you covered with a new online tool — the WASTE WIZARD!
All you need to do is search the item, and the WIZARD will tell you if it's trash, can be recycled, or help you find a location for waste drop-off. Try it out!

NACC'S WAGGIN' WHEELS IS BACK!
Saturday, Feb. 8, noon - 2 p.m.
Jordan-Newby Anchor Branch Library
Thanks to the ongoing partnership between Norfolk Animal Care Center, Friends of Norfolk Animal Care Center, Norfolk Public Library and the City of Norfolk, the Waggin' Wheels Pet Pantry is back on the road in 2025, bringing pet food and resources to neighborhoods across the City on the second Saturday of the month.
First stop is Saturday, Feb. 8 at Jordan-Newby Anchor Branch Library (1425 Norchester Ave.) from noon to 2 p.m. or while supplies last. For more information, visit www.norfolk.gov/petpantry.
Want to get involved and support NACC's Pet Pantry programs? Save the date for these fun benefit events!
Stuff the Bus: Saturday, Feb. 1 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Waggin' Wheels will be parked in front of the shelter for a drive-up and drop-off pet food donation drive. Any brand, flavor, or size dog and cat food is accepted as long as it's unopened.
Pawdi-Gras Pet Photos: Saturday, Feb. 22 from noon to 4 p.m. at Elation Brewing
Bring your pet for a fun, Mardi Gras-themed photo. Donations benefit the Friends of NACC.

Registration for Norfolk Parks and Recreation's Spring Break Camp opens on February 10! The camp is for ages 5-12 and will take place from April 14 to April 18 at Bayview, Crossroads and Fairlawn Recreation Centers.

MAINTAINING OUR METROPOLIS, PART 2
Back in November, Norfolk Neighborhood Services brought representatives from City departments together for the first "Maintaining our Metropolis" code enforcement workshop.
The well-attended event had participants asking for more, so Neighborhood Services is proud to deliver with a second session featuring even more City departments and representatives, such as Norfolk Fire Marshal, Storm Water Division, Park Rangers, Animal Protection and more!

COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT STREET TEAM
Norfolk's Department of Human Services (NDHS) realizes that many residents struggle to access benefits programs, assistance and support services due to a lack of transportation. To address that need, NDHS has partnered with Norfolk Housing and Redevelopment Authority (NRHA) to bring much-needed access with the Community Engagement Street Team (CEST).
The CEST has stops every Thursday in February from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the following locations:
Feb. 6: Grandy Village, 2971 Kimball Terr.
Feb. 13: Oakleaf Forest, 1701 Greenleaf Dr.
Feb. 20: Diggs Town, 1619 Vernon Dr.
Feb. 27: Young Terrace, 804 Whitaker Ln.

EARN GRANT FUNDING FOR BUSINESS TO RETAIN YOUR RAIN
Twice a year, the City of Norfolk awards up to $2,500 to neighborhood organizations or other nonprofits to support parcel-level stormwater management and flooding mitigation efforts. Retain Your Rain Mini-Grant applications are now open through March 1st.
