Get on Your Bike & Ride! May is Bike Month!

Trade in that gas power for pedal power this May for the 11th Annual Norfolk Bike Month. Bike to work or school, explore bike trails, and gather with family and friends to discover the many benefits of biking.

Vision Zero: Slow Down, Stay Alert, Share the Road

Zero is the Goal

Vision Zero is an initiative to create a safer environment for everyone getting around in Norfolk, whether by foot, bike, scooter or vehicle. And Bike Month is a great time to make sure we're all sharing the road!

Motorists are reminded to:

Share the road with cyclists. Bikes are allowed on city streets whether in a bike lane or not.
Keep a distance of at least three feet when passing a cyclist on the street. It's the law!
Watch out for cyclists when opening your car door when parked on the street.

Bicyclists are reminded to:

Follow the same rules of the road as a vehicle. Stop at stop signs and traffic signals, and yield to pedestrians. Bike with the flow of traffic.
Wear a helmet!
Be seen! Wear bright clothing in the dark and use a white headlight and red taillight at night.
Use bike lanes and buffered bike lanes whenever possible.

Lime eBikes & Scooters

Renting a Lime scooters or eBikes is a great way to get around the Mermaid City.

Just remember:

Protect your head – wear a helmet.
Scooters are for riders 18 years of age and up.
Obey all traffic signals.
Ride in the same direction as traffic.
Scooters are for streets posted 25 mph or less.
Scooters belong on the street – NOT THE SIDEWALK.
Park Responsibly – Use designated parking corrals or park out of the street and clear of building entrances and ramps.
Share the road, not a scooter.
Don’t drink and ride.

Lime eBike users are reminded to follow the same rules of the road as bicyclists.

Drinking Water Week

Norfolk’s new Water Quality Report shows that once again our tap water has met all federal and state requirements. What better way to celebrate Drinking Water Week (May 1 -7) than with a cold glass of Norfolk water?

Norfolk has Virginia’s best tasting tap water, according to the American Water Works Association.
