Providing Hope, Help and Resources

Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, the number of homeless residents in Norfolk has nearly doubled.

In an effort to continue to protect the most vulnerable members of our city, the Norfolk Community Services Board partnered with the Urban Renewal Center to set up a temporary shelter at the former Greyhound bus station to provide food, shelter, peer and employment services to members of the homeless community.

Call the shelter at 757-708-4354 for more information and to find out how you can lend a hand.
FY 2022 Budget Adopted
Norfolk City Council approved the City’s $1.5 billion budget. Development of the City’s FY 2022 financial plan took place during a period of unprecedented public health and economic uncertainty. While this budget begins Norfolk’s recovery, city revenues remain significantly below pre-COVID projections. Click here for more information on the budget.

Lifeguards Needed!
Parents! Are you looking for summer or part-time employment for your teens ages 16 and older? Consider encouraging your teen to apply for a lifeguard position with the City of Norfolk. We are looking for lifeguards for Norfolk beaches and indoor pools. Interviews are held weekly.
New Bike Share Program
We're launching a new electric bike program! Lime provides e-bike service and scooter service in the same app, so anyone who wants to rent a bike can find one in the same place as the scooters. As with scooters, riders must be 18 years of age to use an e-bike and follow the rules of the road.
Providing a Safety NACC
Check out the Safety NACC program, a new supportive service for Norfolk residents. Safety NACC provides short-term placement for an owned animal whose family is experiencing a temporary inability to provide them care. For information on how to enroll in the program or to become a foster, contact NACC at 757-441-5505 or by email.

More Than Building Houses
The Olde Huntersville Civic League had a plan - one that would not just build up the housing stock in their neighborhood, but one that would also build up its community. Working with the City, the neighborhood established a housing plan book that allows developers to streamline the permitting process, build on smaller lots and get families into homeownership faster. In doing so, one developer was then able to give back to the civic league - in a big way. A $10,000 donation will further the community's effort in building up people.
Making Travel Safer
The gate to the I-64 entrance ramp on 15th View Street will now be closed daily from 12:30 to 6:30 p.m. to manage traffic during rush hour and prevent wrong way entry activity. Concrete barriers have been installed on W. Ocean View Avenue at the 15th View Ramp and drivers will not be able to turn left onto the entrance ramp.
