Close-up with New DRT Sergeant, Susana Salazar
Not new to the area, but new in her role, Susana "Susie" Salazar, tackles a lot in one day as the Differential Response Team (DRT) Sergeant for the new
North Belt Police Station. We got to know her better with a little Q&A.
Q:
Tell us about your role.
A: I was promoted to sergeant in May of last year to North Division Patrol and moved to the new North Belt Station in January. Prior to my promotion, I was a DRT police officer for eight years in the northeast area. A police officer for 18 years total.
|
|
|
Q:
So what falls under your responsibilities as DRT Sergeant?
A: Our primary responsibility is to proactively identify and address crime issues (illegal game rooms, illegal massage parlors) in our local community, which includes assisting divisions with undercover investigations, enforcement of city codes and community service in the Humble, Greenspoint and Willowbrook areas.
Q:
What’s a day on the job with Srgt. Salazar like?
A: Right now, we just met with a nonprofit to see how we can support with mentoring at-risk homeless kids. Now, we’re about to do a convenience store check to ensure they are in compliance. And later, I’m going to meet with vice officers regarding a human trafficking issue.
Q:
Favorite places to eat in the area?
Q:
Hobbies?
A: My 4 year-old is plenty (laughs).
Q:
Anything you’d like to add?
A: I’m looking forward to meeting more members of the community and businesses at the Positive Interaction Program (PIP) meetings this month to continue strengthening those relationships.
We will provide useful information such as how to get local crime statistics, crime prevention, and when to file police reports.

Now Open, Jack Drake Park
|
Spring is here and so is Jack Drake Park, a new park nestled in the North Houston District with a beautiful walking trail to enjoy!
The park was named in honor of former longtime president of the Greater Greenspoint Management District (now known as the North Houston District) whose leadership was instrumental to the community.
The park was designed to preserve native plant species and provide habitat for urban wildlife.
Also in progress at the park is a canoe launch for 2019!

Change is Good at Casa Verde Apartments
“The new management has turned this place around,” says property manager Dolly Garza of 30 years in the leasing industry.
Improvements include updated stainless steel appliances, contemporary fans, quality laminate flooring and granite countertops. New security gates are in the works, curbside details, a new splash pad for kids to enjoy this summer and even two dog parks.
The Casa Verde Apartments, located on Goodson Drive near I-45 and Airline, fared well during Tropical Storm Harvey and did not flood.

Summer is around the corner, and you or your business can make a difference for a child in need by sponsoring a memorable experience at
YMCA Camp Cullen.
Throughout the year, the Aldine-Greenspoint YMCA offers activities to youth like after-school care, soccer and leadership training, but during the summer, it also encourages youth to attend Camp Cullen. Camp Cullen is located near Lake Livingston, and offers a wide variety of activities for youth.
Few slots are left, but many children and teens in Aldine-Greenspoint still haven’t experienced a summer camp.
If you or your business would like to sponsor a kid to camp, contact YMCA Executive Director, Najah Call
