Better Presentations = Increased Sales

Is it time to refresh the marketing materials that you provide with your project quotes?
A good presentation package is an unbeatable way to demonstrate your expertise, put a human face on your company and supercharge your chance of winning the job.
Avoid being just another contractor who hands out manufacturer cut-sheets in a freebie folder.   Take action to develop your own marketing materials.
Here are some tips to get you started:
Set Yourself Apart.  Communicate what your difference is.  What unique value do you offer clients?
Focus on What They Want to Know:   Make a list of the 20 biggest issues, challenges, problems or concerns faced by your customers, and be sure to cover those.
Capture testimonials from your best clients.   Regular customer surveys are a great way to generate lists of satisfied customers who might be approached for testimonials.   Remember that good testimonials are genuine and specific.
Don't Just Talk About Yourself.   Great presentation packages share practical information that is valuable to the reader; educating and persuading rather than simply just selling.  Engage the audience with information about things that help them with their needs, aspirations and desires.  What's important to them?
See The Power of Automatic 48 Hour Delay
And other standout features that make Rain Bird Wireless Rain Sensors the leader
Rain Bird is once again at the forefront of innovation, offering a wireless rain sensor that meets the strictest government mandates while helping to lower your customers water bills.
The WR2-48 takes everything great about the original WR2 and adds an automatic, 48-hour shut-off feature. Choose your own rainfall or low-temperature set points and save up to 35% on water usage while promoting lush, beautiful landscapes.
Installs faster with one-person
One person can install it quickly and easily. Signal strength is displayed on both the sensor unit and the controller interface. The versatile mounting bracket quickly attaches securely to a gutter or any vertical surface.
Easier to use and program
In just a few seconds, you can select set points, program the irrigation modes and save your default. All settings are displayed on the easy-to-read LCD screen, so you can see signal strength, rain and temperature set points, battery life and more at a glance. Unlike other rain sensors, the WR2 has a long-lasting battery that's quick and easy to replace.
The only wireless sensor with a signal strength indicator
Signal strength is displayed on the controller interface using familiar cell phone icons. Dual antennas safeguard the system from signal interference by radios, mobile phones, power lines, etc. The WR2 system overcomes most line-of-sight obstructions so you have freedom in locating the sensor. Weather data is updated every 45 seconds to ensure the most reliable communication between sensor and controller.
How can contractors effectively measure efficiency with just one Key Performance Indicator (KPI)?

Track revenue per man-hour.  It's a simple and fast measure of productivity.   Check it weekly or monthly: simply look at total man-hours logged and revenue billed.

This measure will quickly tell you whether you're performing to plan, or whether you need to investigate where inefficiencies are occurring.   If your team is working more hours and billing less for it, you need to find out what's going wrong FAST!   If your billings are improving, your correctly capturing value from the effort your team is putting forth.

The number will vary based on weather, new personnel, equipment availability and more.  But it's the ultimate gut check of where you stand.  Start tracking it today!
Move More Water, Get Lasting Performance
Two Key Benefits of Smoothwall Drainage Pipe

Smoothwall drainage pipe from Advanced Drainage Systems (ADS) is easy to work with and offers advantages over traditional corrugated pipe.

Smoothwall pipe is available in 10' lengths; 3", 4" and 6" diameters, and joins with simple, secure bell-and-spigot connections. The pipe is made with a white, high density polyethylene layer around a black polyethylene core to form a lightweight pipe with excellent beam stiffness.

Because Smoothwall is relatively stiff in length, it can easily be laid straight and "true to line and grade". The smooth interior walls mean less slope is needed to get the pipe to drain properly versus corrugated. The pipe provides for safe, easy, efficient installations without breaking, splitting or cracking, and is more impact-resistant than PVC, ABS or styrene.  Smoothwall can be used for all your turf drainage needs.
Troubleshooting electrical problems with a 2-wire decoder system is significantly more complex than a traditional irrigation system.

Thanks to Regency Wire and Cable, we have new training videos on troubleshooting 2-wire systems.  They share information helpful to all brands.    Watch the first video on the basics here, then visit their YouTube channel to see the full series.

How to Avoid Losing People This Season

The battle for talent is on. Employees are more mobile than ever.

How do you make sure your best team members stay with you?

When employees leave, the knee-jerk assumption is that the issue is money.  Of course, that's often the excuse that the employee makes. But usually the issues that motivate a move are deeper.   Employees quit a bad supervisor, rude co-workers or a toxic work environment.

Consider bigger-picture issues beyond money:
  • Do employees feel listened to?
  • Do they feel like their needs are respected?
  • Do we praise as much as we criticize?
  • Is there a future with the company?
  • Is the owner or supervisor always angry or dismissive?
  • Do we provide opportunities for training, growth and advancement?
Good employees stay put at good companies, even with average (or sometimes below average) wages. Good employees leave companies with bad cultures for even a few cents more. They don't see a reason to stay. This year, you need to give them that reason!
