The District of Lantzville released its Official Election Results for the 2026 General Local Election on Wednesday, October 21, 2026.

A total of 1727 ballots were cast in the election with eight candidates seeking four Councillor positions. Mayor Mark Swain was acclaimed following the close of nominations in September.

Scott Mack, John Westby, Jonathan Lerner and Lee Forsyth have been elected to serve as Councillors for the 2026-2030 term.

The District extends its appreciation to all candidates who put their name forward for public office and to the residents who participated in the election. The District also thanks the election officials and staff whose efforts supported the administration of voting and the counting of ballots.

Jason Gosling Reaches 20 Year Milestone

Jason Gosling is the District of Lantzville's longest serving employee, and he will be marking 20 years of service on November 14, 2026.

Jason currently works as a Parks Technician III in the Public Works department. Previous roles include Labourer and Chief Water Operator.

Jason was asked to tell us about his favourite part of his job, and it is how much he enjoys chatting with residents and assisting wherever he can. In particular, Jason enjoys being on call as the after-hours and late-night situations are often unique and give him a special opportunity to assist our residents. Jason also appreciates the colleagues he has worked with during his 20 years of service with the District.

Steve Page has worked with Jason in Public Works for nearly ten years. He noted, "while most of us working here have a little knowledge of a lot of things, Jason has a wealth of knowledge about all things operational in Lantzville. He is a pleasure to work with, has a great sense of humour, and is always our 'go-to' source when we are stumped."

Eric Thurlin, has also spent several years working with Jason and points out that "Jason's dedication to the District for 20 years is impressive. He cares a great deal about the community, is always willing to help on any occasion and is a great team member".

The Fire Chief, Neil Rukus, describes Jason as "a very dedicated employee who always goes the extra mile to help residents out and make the District of Lantzville a better place. Jason can often be found interacting with community members with a welcoming smile and a wave anytime you pass him on the street." On behalf of the management team, Neil extends his congratulations on 20 years!

Thank you, Jason!

Don't Fall Back on November 1

For the first time, most of British Columbia, including Lantzville, won't turn the clocks back when much of North America returns to standard time on Sunday, November 1, 2026.

As a result, since B.C. will remain on permanent daylight time, the time difference with several other provinces and U.S. states will change. For example, Toronto is currently three hours ahead of us, and on November 1, 2026, that will change to only two hours. Similarly, California is currently in the same time zone, and on November 1, 2026, they will be one hour behind.

Some calendar apps, meeting schedules and digital systems may still be coded for the old clock change, potentially causing confusion with appointments, flights, and virtual meetings. Residents are encouraged to double-check their schedules and ensure their devices and applications are updated if they are using digital calendars.

While we can expect sunsets that feel later in the winter evenings, by December we will also experience 9am sunrises. Children and pets are poised to benefit the most as the new static clock will prevent disruptions to meal times and routines.
