The Experiencer Resource Team: Still on the Hunt for New Members
By George F. Medich, MUFON Director of Experiencer Research
The MUFON ERT has been very successful in recruiting new members and we are near our maximum size. However, we would still like to entertain ERT applications for membership from FIs in states where we do not have a representative: NH, VT, MA, NJ, DE, SC, GA, OH, IN, TN, AR, LA, OK, AR, WI, ND, NM, NV, ID, AK, HI.
If you are currently a certified field investigator in one of those states and would like to work with experiencers, you can request an application for ERT membership from me.
We would like for you to have at least 10 sighting cases investigated prior to application to the ERT.
If you are international member, we would also welcome your request.
What we do in the ERT
The ERT is composed of experienced MUFON field investigators who have an interest in abduction.
Kathy Marden is the Director Emeritus, and I am the Director; Tim Aines is the Assistant Director.
We contact those who complete the experiencer questionnaire and offer assistance to those who
want hypnosis, a support group, or just want someone to listen to their stories. We have a panel of vetted hypnotists to whom we refer. Those hypnotists must have proof of education, insurance and a knowledge of abductions.
We don’t charge for our services and let each panel provider make their own decision about charging a fee for their services.
To become an ERT member you must be an experienced field investigator and have a background knowledge of abductions.
You must also be willing to be a compassionate listener. Unlike sighting assignments, the ERT does not
attempt to validate what an experiencer tells us.
We are here to assist the experiencers in coming to terms with their issues related to their experiences.
I send out the questionnaires to our members. I distribute them geographically so there is not much difference in time zones. I get the expriencer questionnaires from HQ when they are completed.
Questionnaire distribution crosses state borders, unlike sighting assignments. If you are an otherwise acceptable candidate but require more background in the knowledge of abductions, we have a mentoring program, which allows you to become an ERT member while you fill in your knowledge of abductions until you are ready to begin to respond to experiencers’ questionnaires.
We meet once a month on Zoom to address issues and have educational talks. Some of the speakers we have had are Richard Dolan, Derrel Sims, Preston Dennett, Garry Nolan, Caroline Cory, Kathy Marden, and Richard Lang.
We are a varied group of people: many professionals, teachers, nurses, ex-military, counselors, etc.
We also have a consulting mental health panel consisting of psychiatrists and PhD psychologists, which allows members to have professional backup if one is unsure of an experiencer’s mental status.
In all, we have 75 members.
I hope you will consider completing an application. I don’t think that being an ERT member will require much of your time.
I have found this type of work very interesting. As you can imagine, we run across some very compelling and strange stories. We are a very collegial group of people who enjoy one another’s company.
We have a subset of applicants who do not have an adequate background knowledge in abductions but otherwise check all the other boxes for ERT membership. To address this, we set up the aforementioned mentoring program allowing new applicants to acquire the background needed to perform ERT work. Such applicants are enrolled as ERT members but cannot yet respond to experiencer questionnaires. After their background knowledge of abductions is adequately addressed, they then are able to assume full ERT activity.
Let me know if you would like our applications committee to send you an application.
