Planned Power Outage will Impact Downtown Mackinaw City on November 3, 2022 |
Officials from Consumers Energy say they need to interrupt electric service to many businesses in Downtown Mackinaw City on Thu. Nov. 3, 2022. The outage is scheduled to take place at approximately 10:00 a.m. and should last for just 10 to 15 minutes. The scheduled outage time is from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m., but crews say if all goes smoothly, the outage should last no more than 15 minutes. If issues arise, the work we are delayed by 24 hours.
All businesses and organizations impacted by the outage should have received postcards in the mail from Consumers Energy. The outage area includes most of Mackinaw Crossings including East Central Avenue ranging from the addresses of 102 to 316, South Huron Street from 102 to 276, and three locations on South Nicolet, 101, 103, and 105.
The outage is necessary to allow crews to safely install new equipment and make some system upgrades. Consumers Energy apologizes for the inconvenience this will cause and will do everything possible to keep the outage as brief as possible.

New Street Trees in Mackinaw City |
Released 10.20.2022
15 new maple trees have been planted in street green space across Mackinaw City.
The effort was a collaborative success, bringing together residents of Mackinaw City, the Village of Mackinaw City Department of Public Works, Consumers Energy, and the Michigan Forestry and Park Association (MFPA).
The tree plantings were funded through the Consumers Energy Community Street & Boulevard Tree Planting Program and administered by the MFPA. The Village had solicited requests for tree locations from the public in late June. These requests, and other locations strategically picked by public works staff, were approved by the Village Tree Board in early July. The Village of Mackinaw City was awarded the maximum grant of 15 street trees in late July. read more here

The sun sets on the Straits of Mackinac. Fires crackle in stone hearths. The smell of treats and warm beverages fills the crisp winter air. Laughter, conversation, and more can be heard emanating from inside the palisaded walls. It’s ‘A Colonial Christmas’ at Colonial Michilimackinac, where the traditions of the 17th and 18th centuries are alive for all to explore.
Lanterns light the path in Michilimackinac where storytellers recount the various traditions of historic residents, a retelling of the first Christmas at Mackinac in 1679, and the church at Ste. Anne’s prepared for Christmas Mass as it would have been in the 18th century. Create crafts to take home and bring the family out on the Parade Ground for historic games. All the while, enjoy delicious holiday snacks located throughout the fort. #thisismackinac
