Horse and Rider Advocate Series: Smarter Show Scheduling
When planning next year’s show calendar, you and your trainer should begin by mapping out personal goals for you and your horse, then researching available shows and venues, divisions/classes, distance traveled, indoors versus outdoors, weather and countless other elements.
Through the process, it is important to keep in mind that horses are sentient beings, not machines, and to base your schedule on your horse as an individual.

Peter Wylde started riding at age seven, developing early the horsemanship and riding skills that have marked a lifetime of achievement and generous contributions to the hunter/jumper sport. This year marked Peter’s 10th appearance at the EAP National Training Session.
On Native Surf, Peter won the 1982 Maclay and rode on the Tufts University Intercollegiate Horse Show Association team, winning the coveted Cacchione Cup in 1986. With Macanudo DeNiro, Peter earned Team and Individual Silver Medals at the 1999 Pan American Games. He won the Bronze Medal in Show Jumping at the World Equestrian Games in 2002 with Fein Cera, who was voted “Best Horse” and was also his partner on the Gold Medal-winning US Olympic Show Jumping Team in 2004. Peter is the subject of "Wylde Ride: A Horseman's Story" (2010) by his early trainer and mentor Joe Dotoli.
Peter’s sharing of his experience with young riders at EAP continues to influence a generation of riders both in and out of the show ring as many of the overall EAP National Champions have gone on to their own successful careers.
