As many of you know, I have recently moved from a full-time schedule to a 25-hour-per-week pastoral role. That means we’ve been doing some intentional work behind the scenes to make sure those hours are focused on the parts of Christian Education and family ministry where having a pastor matters most.
So, what am I still doing?
Quite a lot of the things you probably most associate with me!
I’ll continue to teach and lead Confirmation, shape our Sunday School and other Christian Education programs, help plan Adult Education, lead milestone ministries like First Communion and Third Grade Bibles, and help shape the ways children and youth participate in worship.
Just as importantly, I’ll continue to spend time with our children, youth, and families—being present at Youth Group and fellowship gatherings, leading retreats, attending conferences, talking with confirmands, building relationships with families, and helping our volunteers and mentors feel equipped for ministry.
What will be different?
You may start noticing that I’m not the person handling every logistical detail behind those ministries.
Things like calendars and room reservations, registrations and rosters, sending routine communications, managing forms, organizing food, and other behind-the-scenes tasks will increasingly be handled by staff members and volunteers.
So you may sometimes hear from someone other than me about a signup, schedule, form, or logistical question. That’s intentional.
It allows me to spend my hours on the pastoral things: teaching, relationships, pastoral care, theological leadership, and helping our children and youth grow in faith.
What does that mean for your family?
Hopefully, good things.
I’m still your pastor. I’m still here for your kids. I’m still deeply involved in the ministries we share together.
I’m just going to be doing less of the machinery that keeps Christian Education running—and more of the ministry we built that machinery to make possible.
