Microscopy Today.jpg

Submit an Article to Microscopy Today

The Editors of Microscopy Today (MTO) encourage and greatly appreciate submission of articles from microscope users as well as microscope manufacturers and suppliers. Of particular interest are summaries of in-depth articles published in peer-reviewed journals and articles that describe new equipment and applications. Microscopy Today is open access and there are no charges for publishing in MTO. All articles are available free to our subscription list of over 18,000 microscopists and through our collaboration with Cambridge University Press over 8,000 libraries worldwide. For further information email the Editor-in-Chief at [email protected] or visit

https://www.cambridge.org/core/journals/microscopy-today.

Please note, all authors of manuscripts recently accepted into Microscopy and Microanalysis, due to our transition to our new publisher, Oxford University Press (OUP), there are some delays in typesetting and sending out proofs to authors. Proofs should be available from OUP as the transition is finalized in the next couple of weeks. Thank you for your patience!

The new website for the journal will be https://academic.oup.com/mam. That site is populated with basic information, but the actual manuscripts and issues have yet to be transferred. You can already use the site to find instructions for submissions and links to the ScholarOne submission site. Stay tuned!

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee News

Greetings from the Microscopy Society of America’s

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee!

We are finishing Hispanic Heritage Month and the MSA DEI Committee, along with the MSA, wanted to recognize essential contributions and influences to science and education in the United States by Hispanic, Latina, Latino, and Latinx members of the electron microscopy community. These members of the electron microscopy community are contributing to advancing science in their respective fields and training, educating, and mentoring the future workforce of the United States.

View our compilation here.

For more information or to get involved in the DEI committee, please contact DEI committee chair, Treva Brown at [email protected].

Technologists’ Forum News

The Technologists’ Forum is free to join and provides a community for those who work in the technical areas of microscopy sample preparation and imaging or anyone interested in expanding their skills.

Professional Development Survey

The Tech Forum is working with other MSA committees and vendors to have a better understanding of training deficiencies affecting career preparation and employer expectations. We have created a survey to find out which skills early and established scientists would like to learn. Results from this survey will help us develop online and in-person training during a PMC at the annual M&M conference. We encourage you to check out the survey and provide your input. The Google survey can be found here.

Technical Award Nominations Due by October 31, 2022

The Hildegard H. Crowley Award for Outstanding Technologist in the Biological Sciences and Chuck Fiori Award for Outstanding Technologist in the Physical Sciences are Society Awards that are given specifically to technologists for their contribution to the field of microscopy. All nominations must be submitted by October 31, 2022. Nomination guidelines can be found on the Awards Webpage.

Certified Electron Microscopy Technologist [CEMT]

The Microscopy Society of America (MSA) provides the only certification of technologists in biological transmission electron microscopy available in the US. Certification can be important in determining job classification, salary level, and potential for advancement or promotion. Individuals with the requisite educational and/or occupational qualifications can attain certification by completing an application and passing both written and practical examinations.

·      The next registration deadline is Jan 27, 2023. For additional information and registration materials go to the CEMT Certification Program link.
