• Lantzville Fire Rescue presents the Annual Hallowe’en Fireworks at Lavender Beach on October 31^st starting at 8:00pm
• SCS presents: Hallowe’en Dance at Costin Hall October 26^th from 7:00pm-11:00pm. Tickets are $25.00

City of Nanaimo 

• Starlight Skate at Nanaimo Ice Centre on October 20^th, 4:00pm-6:00pm
• Lions Free Skate every Sunday at Frank Crane Arena from 12:00pm-1:30pm. Free admission and free skate rentals.
• “Stroll with the Pro” on Sunday, October 20^th, 10:00am-11:15am to learn about ducks and other waterfowl. Free for the whole family.
• Thanksgiving Swim at NAC from 12:00pm-5:00pm on October 14^th.
• Thanksgiving Skate at Frank Crane Arena from 1:00pm-3:00pm
• We have a Halloween Howl at Beban Park Pool on Sunday, October 27, 9:00am-12:00pm.

Lantzville Fire Rescue: Open House October 5^th

You’re invited to an open house hosted by Lantzville Fire Rescue on Saturday, October 5^th from 10:00am until 3:00pm at the Lantzville Fire Hall located at 7580 Superior Road. A unique opportunity for residents of all ages to visit inside the fire hall, check out the equipment and meet the firefighters that protect your community! Don’t miss the opportunity to engage in several firefighter related activities! Residents will also have an opportunity to ask questions and see the station from which your fire protection team operates. Learn about the simple but important things you can do to keep yourself and those around you safe from fire. Enjoy the free snacks and drinks too!  

The B.C. provincial general election is scheduled for October 19, 2024.

You can get ready by making sure your voter registration is up to date, finding your new electoral district, and learning about the new voting processes that the province is using to run the election. Visit Elections BC website for more information on the process and the candidates representing Nanaimo-Lantzville.

Cast your vote at Costin Hall during advanced voting on October 11^th, 12^th and 13^th or on the final voting day of October 19^th.

Be sure to register to vote as well as insuring that you bring the right identification to present to an election official.

Reflective Address Sign Program

To allow emergency services the quickest response time in the event of an emergency, it is important that all homes and businesses have a clearly marked address. For this reason, the District of Lantzville has implemented a reflective street address program for residents of Lantzville. To be eligible for this program, you must be a resident of Lantzville or own property in Lantzville where you intend to install the reflective address sign.

The program will operate on a first come first serve basis. Funds are limited and the   program will run until the funds have been exhausted or until the end of 2024 calendar year.

Reflective signs can be ordered by coming to the District Office and completing a form in person or by visiting our website.

Orders for signs can be picked up at the District office after the following dates.

Orders received between September 11 to September 25:

Orders received between September 26 to October 10:

Signs to be picked up at Municipal Hall by October 25

Orders received between October 11 October 24:

Signs to be picked up at Municipal Hall by November 8 

Did You Know?

Halloween originates from the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain, a pagan religious celebration to welcome the harvest at the end of summer. People would light bonfires and wear costumes to ward off ghosts. 

Outdoor Burning

As of October 15^th, backyard burning is open again as long as the requirements related to Bylaw No. 185 and the Ventilation Index are followed. An open air fire (AKA-burn pile, bonfire, backyard fire) is permitted provided that every reasonable   alternative for reducing, reusing or recycling debris has been pursued to minimize the amount of debris to be open burned. No prohibited materials may be burned. Agricultural Clearing Waste Fires are only permitted during the period October 15^th to November 15^th. Details are available in the Bylaw. Conditions apply. Confirm...before you burn!

Outdoor burning is restricted when the index is POOR or FAIR. The conditions must be GOOD on the day you burn and GOOD or FAIR the following day in order to burn per the burning bylaw. Of note, a clear sunny day isn't a reliable indicator that you can burn - you must check the ventilation index. Be considerate of your neighbours when burning so you don't impact their daily routine or health. Burn materials hot, infrequently and ONLY when venting permits so the smoke goes straight up. See the notes below regarding some basic rules about burning and consideration for your neighbours.  

Emergency Preparedness Day: October 17^th

British Columbia is the most seismically active area of Canada and experiences thousands of minor earthquakes per year. While potential earthquake hazards depend on your location, everywhere in British Columbia is considered high risk in relation to the rest of Canada. Are you prepared for an Earthquake? The Great British Columbia Shake Out is Thursday, October 17, 2024 at 10:17am.
