  CLASSROOM UPDATES
Our Primary classes are continuing to take advantage of the beautiful fall weather to enjoy outdoor time together.  The children spend a portion of the morning on the playground before transitioning into work time in the indoor or outdoor environments.  Extended day children have begun weekly art and physical exercise classes led by Primary assistants, Michelle and Kristie.
The school year has gotten off to a great start in Lower Elementary!  As with the commencement of any school year, each class spent time developing a sense of community by discussing ideas for the ideal classroom.  Each class worked together to create guidelines and expectations.  The children have received many Positive Discipline lessons to provide them with the tools needed to help identify their feelings and the feelings of others and process and use this information to make positive decisions and judgments.
In Upper Elementary, students are proceeding deep into math, language, and cultural work. Karen Kelly has been visiting the classroom to give lessons on biology, and the students have made cell models, looked at tiny specimens under the microscopes, and are about to begin a project on food webs.  We have continued our work with American history, with many lessons on the events and people that led to the American Revolution.
At the Middle School, students are deep into an exploration of American Government. This unit includes visits from local government leaders, and individual research presentations on a topic of choice. The students are moving forward with their micro economy projects and are preparing for several upcoming events- Farmstand, a Saturday Breakfast, and Parents' Night Out. They are also preparing for the Capital City Pumpkin Drop on October 20th.
