Is your home ready for Winter?

"Summer has drawn to a close and as we enter Fall this is the perfect time of year to make sure your home is ready for winter. There are many factors that will add to your energy expenses this season such as rising fuel prices and the increases proposed by the electric company. Marine offers products to help keep those costs down.

We stock the Johns Manville Comfort Therm Insulation products. This insulation is poly wrapped and user friendly, keeping the air born irritants to a minimum. We also carry Reflectix insulation, which has great insulating value and no air born irritants. Marine can also offer aluminum storm window and door protection from manufacturers such as Andersen, Larson, and Stergis. There are wooden options as well from Marvin, Boston Sash, and Brockway-Smith.

These items will need to be ordered so don’t delay. Contact the Building Materials Sales Dept. and let us know how we can assist preparing your home for Winter."

The Basics of Cleaning Stainless Steel

Stainless steel is more of a challenge to keep clean because it shows fingerprints and can easily look streaky. Because of this, it’s very important to move your cloth in one direction and go with the grain when you clean.

If you’re not sure which direction you should go, start in a small area and test things out. We found that a clean microfiber cloth works best, though you can also use paper towels.  Keep reading this article from HGTV...

Twinkle is a water based stainless steel cleaner and polish sold at Marine. It is the perfect solution to clean any stainless steel product such as appliances or grills.

"I love this product. I use it in my own home and you can't tell my appliances are almost 10 years old."

"Paint or any other household or chemical limits and/or kills the active biology that is used to treat wastewater. Even the smallest amount can have very significant impacts and what we call ‘kills of biology’ and has in fact completely taken wastewater treatment facilities off-line.

There was a dumping issue a couple years past that took the Sconset plant to near total kill off of biology and caused us to have to re-seed the facility from the larger plant in town."
