News Roundup
VADA President & CEO Don Hall joined CBT News to speak about the future of dealerships and the franchise system. Visit CBTNews.com to read and watch the interview.
Don Hall also spoke with Automotive News on the role NADA can take in advocating for the franchise model in every state:

"Various states lack the resources, oftentimes, to take on a well-funded, well-heeled OEM," Hall said. "And so [NADA] can provide resources in terms of communication pieces that we use to educate legislators with, research on economic impacts of decisions and legislation, they can provide lawyer insights that will help the states do a better job." VADA was also in the news speaking in support of Virginia's Clean Cars law, which Republican legislators have indicated they aim to repeal. “All I know is this: The manufacturers are all in with electric vehicles,” Hall said. “I’ve got to make sure my dealers are all in.” Read more at Energy News Network.

The “Inflation Reduction Act,” a $750 billion tax-and-spend bill, recently signed by President Joe Biden, includes a complete revamping of the Section 30D federal electric vehicle (EV) tax credit.

While this new EV tax credit program generally does not go into effect until January 1, 2023, the bill includes a new requirement that is effective immediately upon enactment and could affect EVs on dealer lots. The requirement mandates that to qualify for a federal EV tax credit, the “final assembly” of the vehicle must occur “within North America,” i.e., the U.S., Mexico, or Canada.
