Let's Continue to Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month! | |

Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated annually from September 15th to October 15th. During this time people all around the world celebrate, learn and recognize the contributions and influence of Hispanic Americans.
Hispanic Heritage month starts on September 15th because it is the anniversary of the Cry for Delores, which marks the beginning of the Mexican War of Independence.

This month we shine our light on our Literacy Council of Montgomery Partner.
Thank you for all you do to assist adults in receiving GED, job readiness and life skills training. We appreciate your partnership and the workshops being offered at the National Harbor.
The Literacy Council of Montgomery County, Maryland, Inc. is a private, 501(c)(3) organization founded by Beth Kilgore in 1963. We were originally founded solely as a volunteer-led tutoring program for native English speakers learning to read and write as adults, but as our community grew and expanded, so did the need to diversify our services. From that came the programs that offer instruction English-as-a-Second-Language (ESL), GED exam preparation, workforce readiness, computer skills, and more that we provide today At LCMC, we teach adults to read, write, and speak English in a vibrant multicultural community where English proficiency is a tool for success.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month! | |

Every October, people rally together to show support for those who have been affected by Breast Cancer. The National Breast Cancer Foundation also uses this month to raise awareness for prevention methods and early detection. It is important to get screened and learn the myths and truths of Breast Cancer and its stages. The more knowledgeable we are, the more pro-active we can be.

Green Summit!
The Department of the Environment will return to
Kentland Community Center to host this year's Green Summit!
WHEN: Saturday, October 22nd from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
There will be green vendors and workshops focusing on our environmental impacts, such as litter, composting, clean air & energy, flooding, recycling and more!
The event is free and open to the public, but registration is required at doesummit2022.eventbrite.com.
Partners interested in tabling or hosting a workshop must fill out this Exhibitor Application and submit no later than Friday, September 23, 2022.

Curtis Campogni!
Curtis Campogni (Founder of Speak4MC) began working with the most at-risk teens in Florida in 2014. Seeking a new tool to engage and retain them, Curtis discovered the power of Motivational Interviewing (MI) and it quickly became his most useful technique to positively influence others. Since then, Curtis has supervised large workforce and juvenile justice programs in addition to training and coaching professionals who serve court involved juveniles, out of school youth, and dislocated workers. He has inspired leaders and direct care staff across the country, speaking at numerous juvenile justice and national workforce board conferences.
In September 2021, Curtis created Speak4MC. Speak4MC was founded on the belief that with the right tools, support and motivation, any person, organization, and community can grow. Speak4MC is dedicated to providing services inspired by collaboration, compassion, empathy and evocation. Speak4MC is determined to become the world's most trusted source for motivational content that inspires positive change.

On the First Friday of each month, the IID Program will be hosting info sessions for their Construction, Healthcare, Sustainable Energy/Utilities, Information Technology & Hospitality Training Programs

PLUMBERS LOCAL 5 TRAINING FACILITY

Plumbers and Gasfitters Local 5 is having an open house to celebrate their current apprentices and to welcome new apprentices.
The open House will be held on November 18th from 10am to 4pm
They will provide a tour of the Training Facility, provide a live program demonstration and offer manufacturer and supplier booths, where you can learn about the industry's leading tools and technology.

Vaccine Updates

The PG County Health Department reminds residents to get their updated COVID-19 booster shots, especially as the colder months approach. If it has been two or more months since your last COVID-19 vaccination or booster dose, it is recommended that you get the updated booster dose from Pfizer (individuals 12 years and older) or Moderna (individuals 18 years and older). The new “bivalent” booster provides dual action power to target both the original strain that emerged at the onset of the pandemic, as well as the Omicron subvariants.
Eligible residents are encouraged to speak with their health care provider or a nearby pharmacy (CVS, Giant, Safeway, etc.) about receiving an additional booster dose to maximize their protection against severe COVID-19 symptoms. Appointments at Health Department clinics are available for eligible County residents and employees. Visit the County Health Department website for for more information.

The PG County Health Department no longer operates a standing mass vaccination clinic. The COVID-19 vaccine is available through the County’s mobile vaccination units or at the Cheverly Health Center and Maternal/Child Health Center at Laurel, by appointment only. There are a number of vaccination sites available in Prince George’s County that are not operated by the County. Please remember that we neither manage nor control appointments or distribution for any locations not operated by the County Health Department.

- Mobile Vaccination Units: The County’s mobile vaccination units are typically reserved for homebound residents and other high-risk residents who require assistance in getting access to the vaccine.
