American Job Center Partner Newsletter

Dear AJC Largo Partners,


I am excited to offer you the October edition of our monthly newsletter! As in the past, it’s our intention to use this newsletter as an opportunity for partners to share program updates, workshops, events and workforce activities that we should collectively be aware of on a local, state and national level. As Workforce Ambassadors in Prince George’s County, we must communicate effectively and work together to make smart and intentional referrals, increase program engagement and ultimately, promote a quality workforce system that's effective for our job seekers. 


This newsletter is being created for you, and your input will only make it better as time goes on. I can’t promise I will share everything, but I would love to share things that your agency has done or is planning to do in the upcoming month. Event highlights and customer success stories are welcome! The AJC Newsletter will generally go out on the 15th of every month, except holidays or weekends.

AJC National Harbor Opening! 10/25/2021

We are excited to announce that American Job Center, National Harbor will be opening to the public on Monday, October 25, 2021. This has been a work in progress for quite some time and we are delighted that we are almost there. We have all made a difference in the lives of job seekers in PG County and we are thrilled to have the opportunity to expand and be the bridge between job seekers and businesses.

OCTOBER IS BREAST CANCER AWARENESS MONTH!


Breast cancer has never been an easy topic to discuss, however, it is very important. Did you know that 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer? Unfortunately, there is no way to prevent it BUT being proactive is just as paramount. Doctors are still unsure what exactly causes breast cancer and are still working diligently to find answers. It is up to all of us to raise awareness, so that if found, it can be treated early and we have a better chance at survival. You can donate, volunteer or simply increase your knowledge and pass it on to others. Please see the link below to find out what else you can do to help.

Since it is National Disability Employment Awareness Month.

We have decided to shine the spotlight on our DORS partner. We congratulate them for all they do to assist people with disabilities find employment. Keep up the great work!


The mission of DORS is to provide leadership and support in promoting the employment, economic self-sufficiency and independence of individuals with disabilities.


Eligibility


Most of the time, you would be considered to have a significant disability if you have a physical or mental disability that limits your ability to function in one or more of these areas:

  • The ability to walk.
  • The ability to use your arms and hands.
  • The ability to talk.
  • The ability to take care of your personal needs.
  • The ability to get along with others.
  • The ability to adapt to the work place. 

 

If you are blind or deaf, have moderate or severe cognitive disabilities, or have epilepsy (and have not been seizure-free for two years), you automatically meet the definition of a significant disability.

Working Across Partners: A Day in the life of an American Job Center


We all have extensive experience working within a partner-driven setting, having many different parts come together as one to achieve a specific goal. Our main goal is to help the undeserved get the tools they need to excel and get the jobs they are striving for.


We have all been doing a magnificent job reaching our goal collectively. However, there is always room for improvement. I stumbled across a work module that shows different techniques partners can use to better assist their customers and maximize the experience and help the customers receive.
