Captain's Corner
Written by Captain Kevin Deerman
Lately our rainy weather has slowed everything down on the Texas coast. The numerous storms have kept most of us at the dock while those that were trying to get an early start on boatyard projects are struggling. Many of our members look forward to this time of year to get out to the dove fields down south but have been very disappointed so far. We all hope October will bring us some dryer fall weather that will get the birds back into their normal patterns and at least give us a few good weeks before the end of the first split season.
Mark your calendars and save the date for the Club's upcoming FALL MIXER!

The festive yearly social will be held on November 8th at Pappasita's Cantina in Webster (20099 Gulf Freeway).  Sizzling fajitas and all of the fixings will be served in a casual atmosphere.  Cash bar available (of course!).
The Learning Curve
Written by Captain Troy Day
One of the downsides of tagging fish (even though a small one) is having to remember to fill out the tag card and send it in.  I always thought that was just part of the deal, but check out the online tag entry data system The Billfish Foundation has. It's the same information the tag card contains, it just seems much easier to me to fill it out online and hit submit rather than fill out the card and mail it in.

Over the past season, we've started tagging most of our fish on the DECARB.  I think it makes us better, as instead of getting the leader and either cracking it off or pulling the hook, it forces us to try and get the fish close enough to tag, which helps get better video in a tournament.  Add that to the fact that TBF has the Gulf of Mexico tagging division, and it leaves little reason not to tag.  It would be great to see that tag division go to a boat fishing Texas next year...
Club Awards Program
The Club's 2018 Yearlong Awards Program Tournament is coming to a close in a few short months! Hopefully the rainy weather will let up and allow our contenders the opportunity to put more points on the board!
