Programming Notes
Who's that new guy?
If you’ve tuned in lately to a non-symphony or Met broadcast and you’ve heard a voice you didn’t recognize, it is likely that you heard me. I’m John T.K. Scherch, the new guy, the freshman, or whichever other nickname(s) my colleagues or our dear listeners decide to give me. I also understand I’m the first new voice on the air in 20 years. However you’d like to refer to it, I’m ecstatic to be part of this radio station...

Gavin Witt is the Director of Dramaturgy at Baltimore Center Stage. But what, exactly, is dramaturgy? Luckily, he knows, and he can enlighten us.

A new era begins for the Baltimore Choral Arts Society when Music Director,  Anthony Blake Clark opens his inaugural season on Saturday, October 28. Judith had the pleasure of meeting him and talking about it.

This year the BCGS celebrates their 30th anniversary and begins their season with Guitarist Manuel Barrueco on Saturday 10/28.
JP had the pleasure of sitting down with BCGS President Asgerdur Sigurdardottir last week to talk abut what the society was up to for their 30th season.

Don't forget to join Jonathan Palevsky a half hour before the opera for the Opera Preview Show!

The American Opera Series continues:

  • 10/28/17 – Falstaff – 1pm (Chicago Symphony Orchestra)
  • 11/04/17 – Lucrezia Borgia – 1pm (Caramoor)
  • 11/11/17 – Il Pirata – 1pm (Caramoor)
  • 11/18/17 – Tancredi – 1pm (Opera Southwest)
  • 11/25/17 – Amleto – 1pm (Opera Southwest)
  • 12/02/17 - The Met Season begins with Verdi's Requiem @1pm

Your continued support for opera keeps the Metropolitan Opera Radio Broadcasts and other live performances on the  WBJC Operafest  coming to you on Saturdays throughout the year.

The Modell Performing Arts Center at the Lyric presents Jackie Evancho, Sunday, December 3rd, at 6 p.m.

A worldwide sensation when she was only ten years old, Jackie Evancho is moving past the exuberant promise of a child prodigy vocalist, toward maturity as a singer, as a creative artist and as a young woman. Fresh from her spotlight performance of the National Anthem at the Presidential inauguration in January, she seizes the moment with the release of Two Hearts, her long-awaited new album from Portrait/Sony Masterworks.
