BLOOMING

Metal Arts by Wanjin Kim
October 8, 2017 - November 4, 2017
Opening Reception: Friday, October 13th 6-9 PM
Meet the Artist: Saturdays from 1-3 PM
Artful Sundays at Waverly  Talk: October 22, 2017 2-4 PM

Wanjin Kim's newest series of sculptures entitled "Blooming" are an example of her ability to bring to light modern dilemmas in the world through her passionate artistic expression and technical skills. Large copper wire has been twisted, flattened, and formed dynamically to lead-your eyes to the bright red coral set in the center of these sculptures. Additional fine copper wires weave delicately through these larger, more naturalistic flower shapes. Kim's talent as a jeweler allows her to combine small intricate parts while displaying her interest in big sculptures.

The pieces in this show allow the viewer to reflect on the nature of the world we live in today and to appreciate Kim's range of metalworking techniques. She started her studies in jewelry and metalsmithing at Montgomery College in Rockville, received her Bachelor's degree from Pratt Institute in New York, and her Master of Fine Arts degree from Cranbrook Academy of Arts in Michigan.

She has exhibited internationally over the past 20 years in both solo and group shows and currently teaches metalsmithing and enameling classes at Montgomery College.

September Highlights

Last chance to see Carol L Leadbetter's show, AN IMPENDING SILENCE: VANISHING AFRICAN WILDLIFE. The show will remain open until October 7. The opening reception attracted WSG friends, Carol's family and those concerned by the threats to African wildlife. Later in the month a class of kindergarteners from Lowell School  came to draw African animals under the direction of teacher and gallery member Loriann Signori. The children had an assignment to draw from the pictures they liked. Everyone had a great time and did a great job!
