In 1947, Harry S. Truman was president, Princess Elizabeth married Phillip Mountbatten,

Duke of Edinburg, and the first World Series was televised. The Yankees beat Brooklyn 4-3. That was the good news. Traffic deaths in 1947 topped 31,000. An emphasis on workplace hazards were highlighted by the deaths of 111 coal miners in Centralia, Illinois and the explosion of the S.S. Grandcamp in Texas City that killed 581 people. (continued)

Just Like the Leaves


Like many of you, I feel a bit out of sorts when the time changes. So, why do we even have Daylight Savings Time? The idea began all the way back in 1784 with Benjamin Franklin – who coined the phrase early to bed, early to rise, makes a man healthy, wealthy, and wise. Mr. Franklin suggested that waking up earlier in the summer would economize candle usage and result in significant savings. DST was implemented in the US in 1918 during World War I as a way to conserve energy. The luncheons are casual events and are a great opportunity to make new contacts, have great exposure for your business, meet new people, and enjoy lunch. Each event offers an educational presentation of up to thirty minutes with a Q&A following on a relevant topic by guest speakers who are leaders in their fields.
