Please be reminded of the invitation to join fellow members of the branch and the Board of Directors at our Annual Membership Meeting. We will celebrate our accomplishments for the year and have the opportunity to network and meet with one another.

The evening will include a review of the year's activity , the election and appointment of new board members , and the opportunity to view and discuss the short documentary 'It's never too late'. We are thrilled that Dr. Pamela Mears (IDA - Oregon member and creator of the documentary) and her students, Sandy and Mike, will be able to join us.

30 delegates from our Oregon and Southwest Washington region attended the conference in Connecticut this year. Next year we host the conference right here in Portland.

Save the date! November 7 - 10, 2019 .

Thanks to the generosity of Cherida Collins Smith we were once again able to award 4 scholarships for this year's conference. The recipients were Cathy Monroy (Reynolds SD), Carrie Swanson (Blue Mt. Community College), Carrie Anne Wilcox (Klamath County SD) and Tanya Haas (Parent).

Chris , Mac , Kellan , Macey and Madilyn , all members of our Student Panel , attended the conference as our branch ambassadors. They participated on a panel at the Technology Symposium and welcomed attendees to our 'Host Branch 2019 booth' in the exhibition hall.

The students also took part in the NoticeAbility Entrepreneurs and Innovators Workshop which was part of the Family Conference.

Jane Cooper introduced our own Jared S Blank as the 2018 winner of the I DA Pinnacle Award . The award recognizes an individual with dyslexia who has publicly acknowledged such, has made significant achievements in his/her field of interest, is leading a successful life and is a role model for others with dyslexia.

Oregon in the News!

Last month, t he National Center on Intensive Intervention , published a piece by Dr. Carrie Thomas Beck in ' Voices from the Field'. In the article Dr. Thomas Beck discusses the dyslexia law in Oregon, the role of intensive intervention in Oregon’s dyslexia initiative, and she provides advice for states defining their dyslexia frameworks . I n late September, ODE published " Best Practices for Screening Students for Risk Factors of Dyslexia and Providing Instructional Support ".
