The New Year ushered in a new legislative session, which kicked off on January 3rd with the swearing-in of the 201st General Assembly. It's sure to be an interesting two years, with a Democratic Governor, a historically strong Republican majority and a host of fiscal issues to overcome.

National Entrepreneurship Week - Microsoft and You!
Microsoft purchased the rights to the National Entrepreneurship Week URL last year and has committed to building this to be on par with American Express Small Business Saturday. This year National Entrepreneurship Week will be held February 20-24th. Microsoft, in collaboration with others, are joining together to shine a spotlight on Entrepreneurs. Throughout the week, a variety of events, resources and offers are provided to help Entrepreneurs launch, grow and succeed! 
Now the opportunity for you as Chambers is that you can opt into Microsoft's National Entrepreneurship Week programming and promote it to your membership. To take advantage of this it will requires a few things.
  1. Visit https://www.wininbizweek.com/ and review National Entrepreneurship Week. On the home page is a good video from Microsoft's SMB VP, Cindy Bates.
  2. Navigate to https://www.wininbizweek.com/about-contact and fill in the interest form. (Microsoft will reply back to you with additional information and a no cost Participation Agreement.)
  3. Fill out that agreement and return it to Microsoft so you can be included in the activities and document your participation in the Microsoft Community Connections program.
  4. Register any Entrepreneurship Week Events and receive a FREE event kit with software to raffle off! (www.mscommunityconnections.com)      

Coming This Summer - PFEW 2017!
A New Year means summer will be here before you know it! The Foundation for Free Enterprise Education is in full swing, gearing up for another successful presentation of their summer program Pennsylvania Free Enterprise Week (PFEW).
PFEW is now accepting applications for its 2017 Program. This unique program, designed for high school sophomores and juniors, furnishes the perfect opportunity for students to learn about different career opportunities. Students work together as a management team to run their own business and learn about the free enterprise system, all while experiencing college life.  If you know of any Chamber members who have students who are currently sophomores or juniors in high school, please encourage them to APPLY NOW ! The Chamber will hold several events in February including a Networking Mixer on February 9, a Trends Workshop on February 15, and a PowerBreakfast Meeting on February 17.

Susan Williams
Schuylkill Chamber 
It is with great pleasure that the Chamber announces the hiring of Susan A. Williams as the Member Engagement Director, effective December 12, 2016. Susan comes to the Chamber from her previous position of Event Manager, Walk in Art Center, Schuylkill Haven. In that role she was responsible for event planning and execution, marketing communications, development of educational programs, public relations programming, social media communication, website design, advertising and meeting coordination.

TriCounty Area Chamber 
The Chamber recently launched a new buy local program called Shop TriCounty! Shop TriCounty encourages the community to patronize local businesses by using the key tags that are distributed on an on-going basis. The community is encouraged to check tricountyareachamber.com/shoptricounty for a full list of participating businesses, where they are located, and the current discounts being offered. Businesses are encouraged to participate at any time.
