Hospice House
At the March 2024 grand re-opening of the PIH Health Hospice Rose House, a final detail remained: replacing the weathered backyard fence. Thanks to the generosity of our donors, a beautiful, new, and maintenance-free composite fence was installed. The entire project—from the initial construction to these finishing touches—was made possible solely by the incredible support of the PIH Health donor community.

Chapel IT Upgrade
Thanks to the generosity of George Joseph, Founder and Chairman of the Board of Mercury Insurance, and the thoughtful guidance of Dr. Joanna Davies, PIH Health Good Samaritan Hospital has transformed its “Chapel Channel” to better support our patients’ healing journey. The outdated, 30-year-old audio-visual system has been replaced with modern digital equipment, making it possible to share a wider variety of spiritual content directly with patients in their rooms.
This upgrade allows the spiritual care team to record and rebroadcast content, live-stream special events like musical performances, and deliver timely spiritual discussions and seasonal content. We’re also excited to offer the therapeutic C.A.R.E. Channel, providing soothing visuals and music proven to reduce stress and anxiety.
This enhancement reflects our deep commitment to creating a healing environment for our patients, their families, and our staff. It’s a powerful way to connect with and support those in our care, extending our compassion beyond the bedside.

Community Fundraisers
PIH Health Downey Hospital nurses received a sweet treat this May! In honor of National Nurses Week and National Hospital Week, Handel’s Ice Cream in Downey held a fundraiser to celebrate the compassionate and hard work of the hospital’s dedicated nurses. It was a delicious way to give back to those who give so much to our community.
| | Visiting Angels, a senior home care agency serving Whittier and surrounding communities, threw a fantastic networking event and bake sale to support PIH Health Foundation. Thirteen local businesses and organizations joined the cause, donating incredible baked goods and raffle prizes. With around 40 attendees, the event was a delightful success for a great cause! | | | | | Reem and Emad Boutros, the generous owners of Bruster’s Real Ice Cream in Whittier, have a deep personal connection to PIH Health Whittier Hospital. To show their gratitude and support, they hosted their very first ice cream fundraiser. Customers and dedicated PIH Health staff came together, indulging in delicious desserts while raising funds for vital cancer care services. It was a heartwarming event that proved how a simple scoop of ice cream can make a big difference in the community! | | A well-deserved gift has arrived for the cancer care nursing staff at PIH Health Whittier Hospital! Thanks to a generous donation from Jacquelyn Stevenson of Alliant Insurance Services, the team can now relax and recharge in a new Bodyfriend Phantom Rovo Massage Chair. This high-tech system offers a full-body massage, providing the perfect way for our nurses to unwind and de-stress after a challenging day. This donation is a thoughtful way to give back to those who give so much to our community. | | | |
PIH Health was honored to receive a generous donation from The Raymond Group as part of their Annual Volunteer Day initiative. Employees from The Raymond Group came together to assemble Kynd Kits in partnership with Project Helping, creating thoughtful Cancer Care Kits and Fidget Blankets for patients undergoing treatment. These donations will bring comfort and emotional support to patients and families at PIH Health during some of their most difficult moments. We are deeply grateful for The Raymond Group’s commitment to making a meaningful difference in the lives of those we serve.
| | In a “sweet” tribute to the late Charlie Munger, the former long-time board chair of Good Samaritan Hospital and legendary partner to Warren Buffett, See’s Candies CEO Pat Eagan has made a generous donation of 59 cases of chocolates to PIH Health Good Samaritan Hospital physicians and staff. As a beloved part of the Berkshire Hathaway family, See’s Candies holds a special place in the hearts of both Buffett and Munger. This gift honors Munger’s deep connection to the hospital and continues his legacy of giving back to the community he cherished. | | |
The City of Downey recently awarded PIH Health Downey Hospital with a grant to support its Substance Use Navigator (SUN) program, a move that will have a significant impact on the community.
The funding empowers the PIH Health Downey Hospital Substance Use Navigator to continue her critical work. Navigators collaborate with nurses, physicians, and social workers to offer compassionate, respectful, and non-judgmental care to patients with substance use disorders. A key part of their role is to educate patients, families, and community members, a crucial step in combating the negative stigma historically associated with addiction. By raising awareness and shifting perceptions, the program encourages more people to seek the treatment they need, ultimately improving the health and well-being of the entire community.

Corporate Partners Mixer
The PIH Health Foundation Corporate Partners Mixer in June was an amazing success! We had a wonderful time connecting with our valued corporate partners, and the energy in the room was truly inspiring. The evening was filled with networking and an engaging, insightful conversation with Chico Manning, PIH Health’s Vice President of Supply Chain. These powerful connections strengthen our partnerships and deepen our collective impact, enabling us to provide top-tier care to our community.
