Dear PPRA Members,
"Collaboration brings sustained momentum" is the mantra that I work under each day at Visit Philadelphia. That concept has really been brought home to PPRA in the last month as we had two amazing developments.
Thank you to everyone who attended the 75th Anniversary Jubilee at the Bellevue, where it all began. This accomplishment is a prime example of the kind of collaboration that makes us all #PPRAProud. The event started with a $2,500 sponsor and about six attendees registered last fall, growing to a robust sponsorship and more than 100 attendees in just a few short weeks. (And the weather held!)
This event was nothing short of amazing and fun, especially for the PR and news media icons who danced with the Phillies Phanatic - I stopped counting the social media hits on Cecily Tynan and the Phanatic's short dance video. Please remember that Jubilee events will continue all year!
Now, let us turn our attention to the second inspiring moment that occurred just last week when our Hall of Fame members selected their 2020 Inductee, Cari Feiler Bender.
CONGRATS to Cari, who has been an amazing member for many years. With this announcement, the Board of Directors is building on the momentum of the 75th. Please look for information on this year's Hall of Fame event to be held around mid-May. Keep your calendar open as we push to secure a venue and nail down other details! We hope that all members will try to make this luncheon so that we double our January Jubilee attendance.
Save the date: June 17 will be our annual meeting! Details are being finalized but we also have a lot of great programming before that date. For example, check out "Pitching Podcasts" on Feb. 27, when we will be back at our long-time partner venue, the American Bar Association.
Welcome to our new members swept in by our tremendous momentum!

Kind Regards,

Deirdre C. Hopkins
2019-2020 President
Philadelphia Public Relations Association

Amy Buckman, Director of School and Community Relations for Lower Merion School District, directed the District's PR and media relations efforts following the tragic deaths of alumnus Kobe Bryant, his daughter and seven others. A statement she shared on behalf of the District at 4:15 p.m. the afternoon of the crash was broadcast live internationally. She also coordinated media availabilities with student athletes and alumni, and with Mr. Bryant's coaches, while balancing the safety and emotional needs of high school students and staff with the desire of members of the public to pay homage to Mr. Bryant outside the high school's gymnasium.

The Kimmel Center Cultural Campus hosted a successful press and influencer event at Zahav in early January, resulting in broadcast coverage from 6ABC and NBC10; outlets in attendance included Philly Voice, 98.1 WOGL, The Philadelphia Sunday Sun, RowHome Magazine, and various social media influencers.

Three 2019-2020 Kimmel Center Jazz Residents were interviewed by WHYY about their upcoming projects for an on-air segment and online story which was republished by The Philadelphia Tribune. This represents particular success as each Kimmel Center Resident's marketing assets must be built from the ground up annually, and this program is still building recognition in the public eye.
