Dear Members,

There was one particular moment that struck me last year at the luncheon during which Dr. Bill Cowen was inducted into the PPRA Hall of Fame.

It was when all of the PPRA Hall of Famers in attendance stood as their names were called.

There was Larry Rubin and Nina Zucker. David Brown and Lisa Simon. Ike Richman and Sharla Feldscher. All proudly standing as their names were called, excited and ready to welcome another member into the club.

It was a real Who's Who of Philadelphia's public relations community. Just as it should be.

Why bring this up? Because the deadline is fast approaching to nominate candidates for the 2018 PPRA Hall of Fame inductee.

If you have someone in mind who is an active PPRA member and who supports the community, you can nominate him or her up until Friday, Jan. 12 at 5 p.m.

The PPRA Hall of Fame is both exclusive and inclusive. Yes, only a chosen few are selected for the PPRA Hall. But, the list of inductees is also representative of the depth and breadth of the region's public relations industry. There are academics and entrepreneurs. Agency practitioners and corporate communicators.

The Hall of Fame provides an opportunity to shine the spotlight on our profession and the people who make it special. What we do is so often behind-the-scenes. The PPRA Hall of Fame is a rare chance for one of our own to step into the spotlight.

For the rest of us, it is a chance to feel inspired by the qualities of our colleagues. I still remember Cathy Engel Menendez talking about "resilience" at her induction.

Jeff Jubelirer shared his brand of humor and humility at his luncheon. Dr. Cowen spoke with pride about the students whom he has guided and the clients he has counseled.

And, I think of the spirit of the late Sylvia Kauders, herself just the fourth inductee into the PPRA Hall in 1976. Thanks to pioneers like Sylvia, PPRA is an organization with pass-along traditions - something exemplified by the PPRA Hall of Fame.

The PPRA Hall of Fame is something special. Please consider nominating a professional for this year's induction. And, make your plans to welcome the next Hall of Famer into the fold this spring. It is sure to be another moment to remember.

PPRA programs perfect for the PR pro
When public relations professionals see #PPRAProgram, they know they are getting top-flight programs whether educational or social. It may be getting face time with Philly's top journalists or learning the finer points of smartphone videography or getting a behind-the-scenes look at the regional strategy to lure Amazon's HQ2 to Philly . Recently, our exclusive Members Only programs offered an up-close-and-personal studio tour of 6ABC and a media-pitching workshop at The Brownstein Group. At one very special event, we helped our PRoactive Partner, Tree House Books, transform its space into a Winter Wonderland for its Holiday Gift Shoppe. Even our social programs break the mold with a little axe-throwing or some post-apocalyptic partying.

As always, there's no better place to network with your peers than at a PPRA program. Upcoming programs include an exploration of pitching stories to the constantly changing food industry and Careers 101 aimed at helping young PR professionals move their careers forward. Look for them  and much more to come.
