 A NOTE FROM JIM CARUK

While our editorial team just wrapped up the Winter 2019 of the Canadian Home Builders' Association's
Building Excellence , they have to quickly turn their attention to the December 2019/January 2020 Green Issue of  Renovation Contractor . We've moved up production on that issue in order to have it available at The Buildings Show , held in Toronto on December 4 through December 6, 2019. We'll have a booth there so if you're at the show, please stop by and say hello.

In the Dec./Jan. issue, long-time contributor Jay Somerset profiles David Saulnier and Joel German of Nova Scotia-based JD Composites. An 1,800-sq.ft. oceanside home they built has caught the attention of media around the world because of the material they used to build it: recycled plastic water bottles. In fact, more than 600,000 bottles were used to make the energy efficient composite slabs used in construction.

And managing editor Allan Britnell shines a light on what he learned attending a two-day Daylight Symposium/
Healthy Buildings Day conference in Paris, France, put on by Velux.

In the meantime, I hope you enjoy reading the rest of the articles in our November newsletter.
Numbers don't lie, and the story that the figures from Statistics Canada tell us is that we have a rapidly aging population.

Every year, the various paint manufacturers poll designers and other experts to come up with their respective "Colour of the Year."

Earlier this year, Home Depot Canada commercial clients received a letter warning them that the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) would be auditing their books in an attempt to uncover under-reported income by contractors and homebuilders.

Ever experience the awkwardness of having to call a customer to remind them to pay their bill? You walk a fine line of diplomacy. Being a pushover won't get the customer's attention.

Anyone with even a passing interest in construction and architecture can't help but be blown away by the magnificent, gorgeous structures built by the ancient Romans and then later during the Renaissance. So join us on a photo tour of Rome, Florence, Venice, and the Tuscan countryside.
